Museum of Television and Radio

Hey all!
I was thinking about making a trip to the Museum of Television and Radio here in Los Angeles and was wondering what they had there to see and do. What are the must-sees? Also, anything Henson/Muppet related? I think the admission is free but I want to make the most out of my outing. Any tips?

Well, we have one in Manhattan, (I'm sure you already knew that), and although I'm not sure if they have the same things or not, I can say that they had a great Henson exhibit last year. They also have a library, don't know how good it is, and of course, you can probably get literature on just about everything! Another good idea would be to check their website for any special events.

They don't really have any memorabilia. There is a nice store and there is usually one major exhibit in the lobby. I have no idea what it is right now.

The best I would suggest is go to the screening room and look up Jim Henson or Muppets in the computer. I'm sure they have some of the specials and shows that are not otherwise available to see.

Thanks. I thought you would be able to help. The website doesn't really tell me much. I was just curious about the kinds of screenings they might have. If they had for example any classic Sesame Street episodes available for viewing.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about The Museum of TV and Radio in Los Angeles. I did intern at the Manhattan one though; I don't know for sure but I believe the two museums tend to have the same library contents.

The Manhattan museum's Muppet collection is amazing. It includes Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, Fraggle Rock, Muppet Babies, Ghost of Faffner Hall, Jim Henson Hour, and almost all the TV specials and documentaries.

From what they tell us out here, the two collections, NY and LA, are identical. If they have all those shows in NY, we should have them out here.

After you go, let us know what you find, Bear. I've gone to a lot of events put on by the Museum, but I haven't been to the screening library in a long time.

Sorry, Tim, that's at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences... the people who give out the Emmys... and is in North Hollywood. Bear is going to the Museum of Television and Radio in Beverly Hills.

Thanks to WOE I had a chance to go to both places. The Emmy building is very cool. We got to watch several cool shows on the computers at the MTR!! I got pictures with Brian and Lisa Henson, too. They're always such gracious people!

I'd definitely like to see the Academy of Arts and Sciences some day. Of course, I'd like to see California, period! lol

I forgot, I was also amazed to find out the Manhattan TV museum has the pilot Puppetman that Jim Henson put together (and Richard Hunt appeared in). Hopefully, the LA museum has that as well.
