I'm glad this was posted. It pretty much confirms that while initially Martin Baker was going to gather 60 'new' Muppeteers, it doesn't matter how good you were at the 2005 auditions - it was all for nothing!

Wrong, wrong, wrong!
I have just come off the phone after talking to the Muppets creative director.
Regarding the Muppets Mockumentary, it is still being considered, BUT, there is actually a lot of projects in the pipeline and they dont know which one they will do first. They will be breaking the news very soon and which ever they go with, they are looking at screening it as early as August! She apologised for being vague, but that is all she could tell me at this point. So hang in there guys.

Disney better put it out. Think about it. Puppets have been growing in television popularity. We have more shows today with puppets than any other time. Also, they have a guaranteed Muppet loyal fan base.
I don't think people will watch shows just because they have puppets (or Muppets) in them. That's a faulty assumption that puppet/Muppet fans make a lot I think. TV networks do of course program with a kind of herd mentality - Hey, Heroes is hot so let's make super hero shows! - but I think that the reality is that the general audience doesn't care if something is puppets, animation or live action; they only care if something is good and if they can relate to it.

I was at one of the big Henson Foundation screenings in NYC a few years ago and Jane Henson was asked about why there wasn't already a new Muppet Show on the air. The point she made was that few people understand how incredibly difficult it was to do the first time and it that took nearly 15 years to put together.

Personally - and this is just my own opinion - while I have the utmost respect for the people who have taken over various characters during the last 15 or so years, the reality is as someone else pointed out that the majority of the people who made the Muppet Show what it was are either dead or semi-retired. What you get now is a 2nd generation copy. It might be a really, really good copy, but it's still a copy.

I think the Muppets without Jim Henson is a bit like Disney without Walt. They can still do great work to be sure, but the special core of what the audience loved about the Muppets - Jim - is gone and it will never be the same again. And perhaps that's exactly the way it should be.

I almost think that he deserves/belongs in his own project spin-off thingy.

I mean, I love him. He's not my old-school warm n' fuzzy Muppet, no.
But dang, he's funny.

I don't have the Elmo-gag-reflex about him at all. There was a bit too much of him in Oz, yes. But he'd be Awesome Oppossum on his own or with other totally new characters, new cast, etc. Highlight, new, as in fresh.

Fresh Prawn.

Ya know, cocktail sause is really just ketchup and horse radish mixed together.

Cocktail sause kectup and horse raddish mixed together i can see that yes i still love it even though i really hate horse raddish alone by it self .

i would love to to pepe that movie that would be so great wonderful i hope that would happen at some point , oh please i that it would happen and tp have kermit and piggy in a big part in it would be great .

oh yes yes yes , and Gonzo really great fozzie .
