Chapter 13:

A man sat at his desk with his glasses on. "Good evening," he shuffled his papers. "I’m M. Newsman, and this is a Grosse High School newsflash! My co-anchor Lewis Kazzagar is reporting live from the Grosse High senior dance, we now take you there, live!"

A small purple skinned man stood in the middle of a crowd on a red carpet holding a microphone. "Thank you M. and I am indeed here live reporting to you from the wide world of Muppet social events!" He watched a large red bus pull up. "Ah! The first seniors are starting to arrive!"

The band walked out of the bus. "Off the bus, and on the job!" Dr. Teeth chuckled as he walked out in his tuxedo.

"It seems that the band has arrived! Looks like it’s Dr. Teeth leading off the line up on the keyboard, followed by Floyd Pepper on bass, Zoot on sax, Animal on drums, and-wait, what’s this? It seems the Electric Mayhem has put in a pinch player, it seems they now have Kermit the Frog on banjo instead of Janice on lead guitar. How this will affect their playing, this announcer does not know. Normally they’d hit a home run but without Janice, I fear they may foul out."

"Don’t worry bout him green stuff," Floyd nudged Kermit. "He’s just tootin’ his own horn."

Zoot blew a note on his sax. "Oh," he stared. "Sorry."

"And now," Lewis Kazzagar said. "We have Fozzie Bear, he’s started off this season well, but no one knows what to expect from him now."

Fozzie escorted an older woman bear out of a tan Studebaker. "Thanks uncle Joe, see you back home," Fozzie closed the door and the car drove away.
"It looks like Fozzie leads off with the serve, arriving in the Studebaker," Lewis Kazzagar said. "Let’s see how the other team counters. Oh! That’s not good, the other team spikes it back right in Fozzie’s face as soon as he brought his mother to a dance! Ooh, this is not good. I wonder if Fozzie can come back. Oh! Not likely, just look at that tacky tuxedo he’s wearing, so that means the other team scores on game point and the game is over."

Gonzo drove a large green tractor up and jumped down. "Well would you look at that," Kazzagar said. "It seems the Great Gonzo is here to display his skills," Gonzo caught a chicken that jumped down from the tractor as well. "He starts off running down the track at full speed! It’ll be hard for the other runners to catch him now! He hands off the baton to his date, who appears to be a chicken! Oh this does not pose well for Gonzo’s team, the other runners are catching up, oh! There they go, the chicken has been beaten. I guess it just goes to show, a chicken eaten is a chicken burned. Heh heh, just a little funny there."

"Bagawk!" The chicken clucked at him.

"Just ignore him Camilla honey, he’s just a reporter," Gonzo said as he escorted her inside.

A motorcycle rode up and Rizzo, Pepe, and a female rat got off. "And now in the running for shortest players ever we have the rats, both literally and non-literally," Kazzagar said. "Pepe dribbles up the court, he’s got no one guarding him, but what’s this?! Rizzo comes out of nowhere and steals the ball, he passes to his date, Yolanda, she shoots, he scores! The rat beats the shrimp!"

"I am not a shrimp," Pepe said. "I am a king prawn! Hokay? Dios mio, how many times must I tell jew peoples dis?"

A black limousine pulled up behind them. "I don’t believe this ladies and gentlemen! We are about to be graced with the presence of Mr. J.P. Grosse! The owner of this high school, the door opens, J.P. runs down the field and-"
Scooter walked out of the limo, shut the door, and it pulled away.

"What?! This isn’t J.P. Grosse!" Kazzagar said.

"Nope," Scooter said. "I’m his nephew, Scooter. My uncle couldn’t make it tonight, something about making some down payments on an old theater or something."

"Well that is disappointing." Kazzagar sighed. "But, wait, look there, the all-star team has arrived!"

A red corvette drove up and Clifford, Annie Sue, Piggy, and Link walk out. "It’s the jocks and the cheerleaders! Clifford throws a long pass to Link who catches it and runs the rest of the distance for a touchdown! With Piggy and Annie Sue by their sides, nothing’s gonna stop them now!"

The four of them enter the school and the crowd begins to leave. "Well M. it looks like that’s all the action we’ll see here tonight. This is Lewis Kazzagar signing off from Grosse High School."

"Thank you Lewis," Newsman said from his desk. "And remember folks the only place you can see live coverage of Grosse High School events is here! And now," he read one of his papers. "This is also the only place where you can see live coverage of me with a high school."

He re-read the paper. "That doesn’t even make-" just then, a high school fell on top of him.

Chapter 14:

Inside the dance the Electric Mayhem jammed on stage. "All of us are winnin, pickin and a-grinnin," Floyd sang.
"Lordy but I love to jam!"

"Everybody’s singin dancin and jinglin, don’t worry, that’s the way I am," Kermit sang.

"Lost my heart in Texas,
Northern lights affects us," Dr. Teeth sang.
"I keep it underneath my hat.
Aurora borealis shinin down on Dallas!
Can you picture that?
Can you picture that?"

"Can you picture?
You gotta see it in your mind! Can you picture?" The whole band sang.

"You know it's quick and easy to find!
Can you picture?" Floyd sang.

"You don't have to buy a frame!
Can you picture?" Kermit sang.

"Can you picture that?
Can you picture that?" The whole band sang.

"Use it if you need it," Dr. Teeth sang.

"Don’t forget to feed it," Floyd continued.

"Can you picture that?" They all finished.

A penguin ran on stage with a cue card that read "Applause."

"Applause!!" The crowd screamed. "Oh great," they said in union. "We fell for it again.

Meanwhile, on the dance floor Professor Sam was keeping the peace. "Hey!" He shouted. "You there! Arm’s length apart!" He pushed apart two kids. "And to think, even Wayne and Wanda would dance like that," he sighed and walked away.

The boy dancing looked at his date. "Wanda dear," he said.
"Yes Wayne?" Wanda asked.

"Remind me never to work with him in my life," Wayne said.

"So," Gonzo said from the snack bar where Beauregard, Fozzie, Rizzo, Pepe, Yolanda, and Scooter stood with him. "Is everything ready for the plan?"

"Hey Gonso," Pepe said. "Remind me again what we are doing. Hokay?"
Gonzo sighed. "We’re going to get Piggy and Link to break up so Kermit can dance with her."

"And how are we gonna do that?" Rizzo asked.

"I’ve told you already!" Gonzo shouted.

"You did?" Beauregard asked. "Oh um, could you do it again?"

"Fine," Gonzo sighed. "First, Fozzie will distract Kermit with his jokes," Gonzo said.

"Right!" Fozzie saluted.

"Then, Rizzo and Yolanda will bring in the chocolates," Gonzo said.

"Alright chocolate!" Rizzo shouted.

"Yummy!" Yolanda smacked her lips.

"Next, Beau, you’ll set up the net right above the chocolates," Gonzo told Beauregard.

"Ri-ght," he blinked. "The net is right here," he held up a butterfly net.
"The big net Beau," Fozzie told him.

"Ri-ght," Beau nodded.

"Good, then, when Link is under the chocolates, Pepe will light my cannon and shoot me up into the net and I’ll loosen it and send it falling on Link, then Scooter will hoist the net up leaving Piggy alone, and dateless!" Gonzo said.
"Si, how much moneys do I get paid for dis?" Pepe asked.

"Anyway," Gonzo said. "Anyway, Fozzie, then you’ll tell Kermit that Piggy’s alone and that he has to go dance with her! Then the band will play ‘Rainbow Connection,’ and they’ll dance to the last song of the night!"

"Wow," Scooter said. "Sounds kinda complicated boss, are you sure we can pull it off?"

"Anything is possible!" Gonzo said. "Even gargling tapioca pudding upside down through your ears! I should know, I do it every Saturday afternoon."

Chapter 15:

"You can’t take no for an answer," Dr. Teeth sang.

"No no no," the band sang.
"No no no."

Gonzo sat in a cannon and talked into a walkie talkie. "Everybody in position?"

"Ready!" Beau said from the rafters.

"Ready," Fozzie whispered backstage.

"Ready," Rizzo and Yolanda said from under the snack table.

"Ready," Rowlf said into an earpiece while on stage.

"Ready boss!" Scooter said holding a rope leading towards the ceiling.

"Si, I am ready. Hokay?" Pepe said from behind the cannon. "But why do I need a walkie talkie?"

"Yes," Gonzo said. "It adds dramatic emphasis."

"Hokay, whatever," Pepe said.

"Whatcha gonna do when the dimes get tough
and the world's treating you unkind?
You gotta hang on to your optimistic outlook
And keep possession of your positive state-of-mind." Dr. Teeth continued to sing.

"State of mind, state of mind, state, state, state!" The band followed after him.

"Alright Rizzo, place the chocolates!" Gonzo said into the walkie talkie.

Rizzo ran out from the table and sat the chocolates under the net. "What a waste of good food," Rizzo sighed.

"Alright Fozzie, distract Kermit!" Gonzo said.

"Yes sir!" Fozzie said. He turned to Kermit who was sitting this song out. "Hey Kermit, have you heard the joke about the goat and the peanut butter?"

Meanwhile, Link and Piggy are dancing, when the box of chocolate catches Link’s eye. "Chocolate?!" He exclaimed. "I looooved chocolate!" He dove at the box and began to shovel it in his mouth.

"What?!" Piggy screamed. "You left me for chocolate?!"

"Alright Pepe," Gonzo said. "Light me!"

"Hokay!" Pepe lit the cannon and it fired back on top of him. "Ow! Jew owe me big moneys for dis! Hokay?!" Pepe wailed.

Gonzo flew through the air and loosened the net letting it fall on top of Link, but at the same time, knocked Beau down and they landed on top of the principals.

"What’s this?!" Statler cried.

"It looks like a freak and a janitor!" Waldorf said.

"Well, it looks like it’s punishment time!" Stater said.

"Finally," Waldorf said.

"Do ho ho ho!" They both laughed.

"What the-?" Link said as the net landed on him. Scooter began to pull, lifting him up.

"We had to give him chocolate didn’t we?" Scooter gasped.

"So, the monkey says-Hey Kermit," Fozzie saw Piggy alone. "Is that Piggy over there? Alone?"

Kermit turned his head. He saw the pig, she punched a wall. Gosh she’s attractive, Kermit thought. He hopped off the stage and walked over to her.

Chapter 16:

"Hi Piggy," Kermit put his hand on her shoulder.

"Kermie?" Piggy asked.

Kermit nodded. "Would you like to dance?" He asked.

"Oh Kermie," she grabbed his hands. "I’d love to!"

They ran out to the dance floor and waited for the music.

"Alright, we’ve had a great night tonight," Rowlf said from on stage. "You’ve been a great audience. But now it’s time for us to play our last song of the night. This song was written by an old friend of mine. But a new friend of mine taught me what it really meant. Kermit, this song’s for you. You’ve connected your rainbows, and then some. And now, ‘The Rainbow Connection.’"

Janice ran onto the stage and picked up her guitar. She threw off the sling on her wrist and began to play with the rest of the band.

"Why are there so many songs about rainbows?" Dr. Teeth sang.
"And what’s on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
And rainbows have nothing to hide."

"So we’ve been told and some choose to believe it," Floyd sang.
"I know they’re wrong wait and see."

"Someday we’ll find it," the band sang.
"The Rainbow Connection,
The lovers, the dreamers and me."

Meanwhile, the others stood at the snack table. Statler and Waldorf walked up with Gonzo and Beauregard behind them. "You all are in so much trouble!" Statler said.

"You’d better bring a magazine," Waldorf told them. "Cause you’ll be in detention for a long time!"

"Well," Scooter stood up straight. "You’d better start punishing, because the clock is about to strike ten!"

They all glanced at the clock. It read 9:53. "Yeah," Gonzo said. "So you either punish us for the last seven minutes we’re in school, or you let us go dance with our dates and enjoy the rest of our night!"

"Oh gall stones," Statler muttered.

"Fine," Waldorf sighed. "Go dance, have fun," he looked at Statler as they ran off cheering. "You know Statler sometimes I think we’re too soft."
"Maybe it’s time we retire," Stater sighed.

"Heh, Florida here we come!" Waldorf cheered.

"You know what that means," Statler said.

"Bikinis!" They both said.

"Oh Kermie," Piggy rested her head on his shoulder. "I think I love you," she said.

"I love you too Piggy," Kermit suddenly realized. "I love you too."

Gonzo and Camilla, Fozzie and his mother, Rizzo and Yolanda, Beauregard and a mop, all fell in dancing around Kermit and Piggy.

"Have you been half asleep?" Janice sang.
"And have you heard voices?
I’ve heard them calling my name."

"Is this the sweet sound," Rowlf joined in.
"That calls the young sailors?
The voice might be one in the same."

"I’ve heard it to many times to ignore it," Gonzo sang as he held Camilla close.

"It’s something that I’m s’posed to be," Fozzie sang.

"Someday we’ll find it," Kermit and Piggy harmonized.
"The Rainbow Connection,
The lovers, the dreamers and-"

"Me!" Everyone sang the final note together.

"And that my colleagues," Professor Sam said from a podium on stage. He was dressed in a graduation cap and gown. "Is why this senior class is so special, they have persevered, and defined themselves as true Americans."

The seniors smiled and nodded. Kermit, Piggy, Gonzo, Fozzie, and Rizzo, all sat in the front row in their caps and gowns. Followed by Pepe, Scooter, Link, Clifford, and Annie Sue in the second row. And Dr. Teeth and the rest of the Electric Mayhem in the third. Next to Janice, there was an empty seat.
"And now I present the senior class of Grosse High School!" Professor Sam bellowed.

The audience applauded. Even the teachers, Mr. Sweetums, Mr. Lew Zealand, Principal Statler, Principal Waldorf, Pops the secretary, Rowlf, and Dr. Phil van Neuter the nurse. Again, another empty seat was next to Dr. van Neuter.

"Psst," Fozzie nudged Gonzo. "Where’s Dr. Honeydew? And Beaker?"

"I don’t know," Gonzo said. "I haven’t seen them."

Suddenly the doors burst open and Dr. Honeydew and Beaker wheeled in a large machine.

"Everyone, everyone please quiet down," Dr. Honeydew hushed the crowd. "I must show you my new invention! The Grosse High School Labs Diploma Shooter!"

"Me me!" Beaker replied.

"I simply press this button, and the diploma will be fired to the graduating student!" Dr. Honeydew flipped the switch, and the machine began sucking in all the chairs in the room. It then fired it out from another pump and sent them flying towards everyone in the room and instantly knocking them out.

Chapter 18:

Kermit lay in the hospital bed. He wasn’t asleep, but he kept his eyes closed. He listened to the conversation.

"Well Mrs. the Frog," a doctor said. "I have some very bad news. I’m afraid your son has a severe case of amnesia. He has forgotten all the events of the past two weeks of his life. It would be very wise of you to take him back to the place he was two weeks ago to avoid confusion."

"Oh dear, now we must return to the swamp," Kermit’s mother sighed.
"I also suggest not introducing him to anyone he’s met over these past two weeks either. It will cause even more confusion." The doctor said.

What? Kermit thought. I thought I was still in the swamp. But if I’m not supposed to remember anything, why do I remember this song? I don’t think I ever heard back at the swamp. Where did it come from?

Kermit sat on a log he strummed his banjo. "Why are there so many songs about rainbows," he sang.
"And what’s on the other side.
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
And rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we’ve been told and some choose to believe it.
I know they’re wrong wait and see.
Someday we’ll find it,
The Rainbow Connection,
The lovers, the dreamers and me."

Miss Piggy stood in front of a large sign reading "Welcome to Bogen County!"

"Who said that every wish,
Would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning stars?’ She sang.
"Somebody thought of that,
And someone believed it,
Look what it’s done so far."

Fozzie stood outside a small building called the El Sleezo Café,

"What’s so amazing that keeps us star gazing,
And what do we think we might see,
Someday we’ll find it,
The Rainbow Connection,
The lovers, the dreamers, and me," he sang.

Gonzo drove a large truck with Camilla at his side.

"All of us under it’s spell,
We know that it’s probably magic," he sang.

Bunsen and Beaker worked on a machine in a ghost town.

"Have you been half asleep," Bunsen sang.
"And have you heard voices?"

Rowlf sat at an old piano in a restaurant.

"I’ve heard them calling my name," he sang.
"Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors?"

The Electric Mayhem and Scooter played in an old church.

"The voice might be one in the same," Dr. Teeth sang.

"We’ve heard it too many times to ignore it," Floyd and Janice sang.

"It’s something that we’re s’posed to be," Scooter, Animal, and Zoot harmonized.

Kermit played his banjo.

"Someday we’ll find it,
The Rainbow Connection,
The lovers, the dreamers, and me," he sang.

As he sang the final words, he could here voices singing the song with him. He didn’t know whose they were, but he knew they were family.

That was a marvelous story, Prawncracker. And the ending was pretty wild too. Seeing how Kermit lost his memory and didn't remember his friends from High School. But meets them all again in the Muppet Movie. I give your fanfic an A!

Man, this is such a cool story. I don't see why they can't put this on film.
