Well I just wanted to stop in here and say that you are all wrong! and I'm willing to step outside and fight anybody about it. Just leave the rubber chickens at the door.

OK, seriously. I think this thread was looooooonnnnngggg overdue. Let's all make an effort to get along.

Good to see you back, Beau. It hasn't been the same in your absence. I hope everything is okay now.

Anyway, having said that, I'd like to echo what our wise friend Kevin (fishnwolfe) said and put in a few more words since I have been publically silent on these issues. Think before you post, people. If something you say could be potentially juvenile, step away from the computer for a little while -- when you return, it might not seem as big of a deal.

I'd like to post up a little bit from an email I sent that other wise local Kevin [Foz] recently. But, before that, I'd like to put in another opinion: this is a discussion board here, people. Nobody is going to believe the exact same thing. The entire purpose of discussion boards is to have serious conversations and debates. However, debates do not HAVE to become name-calling and this-and-that. We are all capable of these discussions and without them, the board would be as bland as flour. There needs to be limits (being as this is a Muppet AND family-friendly board, politics, sexuality, and religion really have no place being discussed here -- there are plenty of other boards to argue with people about those on) that we can all agree on. If we can all agree not to discuss Muppeteer personal lives, which I see as a good limit to have, we can adhere to these others. I believe that discussing media forms (movies, books, television programs) are applicable to here because of the media nature of the Muppets to begin with.

Now on to my main point; a few bits from my letter:
Quite frankly, most of these supposed "arugments" that have been popping up are nothing more than immaturity and people trying (that being the key term) to be funny. However, quite often, they fail at the humor and someone takes comments out of context. I'm not offended by people's comments usually (aside from a certain member not being punished for telling me to "go to [expletive deleted]" publically a long time back), but thats beside the point right now. Because this IS a family forum, it is important to stop these problems but it is not necessary to over-moderate and block everything that looks like it could be a problem. Quite often, I feel conflicted about posting ANYTHING that would seem "questionable" (such as quoting a JHH bit that used the word "sex" to demonstrate how edgy the show was) and it quite often feels like it could -- any day -- become a police state. I personally think that a nice set of ground rules should be laid out and edited to fit into the context of the NOW, not the MC of 2002 when most everybody that was on it was a migrant of the Delphi board and thus knew each other. People could get away with more those days because we knew each others' boundaries. These days, this is not the case. Few "originals" remain and even fewer will actually stand up to maintain the board. Every one I've spoken to has simply migrated to TP or elsewhere, or just given up. MC has become a joke to them.

That is what I see of MC these days. Clouded, the future is. One person cannot do it all by themself. You and Phillip both do whatever you can to deal with things and I completely respect how much PERSONAL time you two put in, but there really needs to be more control around here. Not a police state, but order: zany, Muppety order.

I'm sure that it is pretty implicit that I have my own personal and college commitments, but I still care about this place. I have made more good friends here than any other board and I want to preserve it for the others that have yet to experience what MC can be. Henceforth, I would like to volunteer my time in order to preserve this goal.

It was my dream for most of my life to work for the Muppets. Now I realize how unrealistic this dream is, considering my lack of experience and ability in puppeteering. However, I believe that if I can assist in maintaining MC, the good word of the Muppet message will be preserved for future Internet surfers that happen to click onto MC in the future as I did back in 2002. If I could have been here from day one, I would have been.

The original rubber chicken I had for years dry-rotted, so I had a funeral and buried it. Zach (Rowlf) sent me an 8x10 B&W photo of HIS rubber chicken to make me feel better because I actually was distraught (and it's now framed in my kitchen). I had a friend named Billy at the time, but he went off into drugs and alcohol.
Maybe he was distraught his rubber chicken namesake had got dry rott and buried .... or maybe even the rubber chicken got distraught his human namesake had hit the booze and got dry rot. I dunno, but i think that's quite a story!

So how did the funeral go? I bet that chicken smelt "fowl" when it was rotted! (sorry, had to get that one in) :embarrassed:

To be completely honest, Mrs. Pepper, I don't even remember what it is we didn't get along about. LOL. It must have been pretty dumb then. It doesn't matter though because now we are buddies.

Thanks, Beau, for starting this nice thread. I know that there have been times that I let myself get into dumb arguments and got in the middle of conflicts. Not proud of it, but we learn. I always try to atleast respect others opinions here whether I like them or not. There is still a difference between debate and fight. Well, whenever I find myself getting into an unecessary battle, I remind myself of what Jim Henson would have done. Ha! Forget Jesus. What would Jim do?!

I must give a big thank you to Beau. I'm so happy that this thread was put on here. Hopefully this will help things around here. I haven't been on in awhile and it's partially because of all the arguing (and because school is absolutely ridiculous!) I really do hope things get better and get back to the way they should be.

Very well said.

I won't say how I know this, but some renegade Elmo fans are fiercely loyal to him. I got an Elmo plushie in the 80s (back when he wasn't so doggone annoying and didn't take over the whole entire show). Let's just say that, with abuse, he became an Ugly Toy. And I gave that thing a considerable amount of abuse, too. When I get a pic of that thing, I'll post.

Well, you can say that the namesake certainly wasn't "dry," but rather "wet." I dunno what's going on with dude now even though he lives like 5 minutes away.

The funeral was a flop...just like a rubber chicken; however, I felt good about it. I just wish more people would have had more nice things to say about my rubber chicken!! :halo:
