Like...now?

Here's something quick while I work these two last scenes.

Isn’t funny that when you want the days or weeks to hurry by they do the exact opposite?

One week in Paris, France would have been a dream to anyone else; to Miss Piggy, plus sized fashion editor at Vogue, this week was an absolute nightmare. Nevermind the fact that, due to the eight hour time difference, Piggy had arrived in Paris about an hour before she would normally be at work, leaving little to no sleep for the diva, but the added dress down she had gotten from the folks above her had all but put her in the worst mood possible all week.

Added to that was the craziness of the start of the new fashion season. As the editor, she was already behind thanks to her unscheduled and unapproved leave of absence that was hastily done so that she would be able to make it back to California in time for rehearsals.

Oh yes, her bosses in Paris at not been happy with her and were even more appalled to discover that Piggy tendered a complete resignation and was only there to tie up any loose ends that may have escaped her before her original departure. If it had been anyone else, Vogue would have made sure that the person in question would never work in fashion again; they would make sure that even passing by a fashion event would cause undue suffering to the person who crossed them.

In this case however, it was Miss Piggy and the magazine would have been insane to try and bar the diva from any fashion event. She may have been a Muppet, but she was an influential Muppet. If Piggy even looked at a Vogue magazine while in an interview, her fans would be eager to view that same magazine; if she commented on a particular style, her fans would want to know more. All Piggy had to do was breathe the word Vogue and they would have legions of people at their door.

And that was essentially what Piggy had done for them – brought the masses in. They of course had to field the questions of when or if the pig was ever going back to the states and that of the Muppets, but as with anything else, Miss Piggy was a consummate performer and entertainer.

That was the only thing that kept her bosses from making bacon out of her bacon.

But it also meant that they put the pig to work that week. The very fact that she had just barely managed to send off a quick text to Kermit, letting him know that she had arrived safely and at some point, she’d be able to give him a call was surprising at all. If she wasn’t at her desk going over designs, she had models in and out previewing certain items and fashions, plus she was fielding phone calls as her assistant just so happened to be out sick that week.

What happened to the Paris she first moved to?

Ah, back then Paris was a great place for a wayward pig looking to forget her past and the frog in it. It may have been strange for her to run halfway across the world and to one of the most romantic places in order to forget romance, but Piggy had always wanted to visit Paris and she had taken to the language much better than she had when she had lived in the states.

Paris, much like Hollywood, can be a great meeting place if one knows where to look. Scooter – bless his sentimental heart – had obviously foreseen that Piggy would want to drown all of her sorrows in or near a place that she would be spotted at. Despite any misgivings on being in a romantic city without a romantic escort, Piggy had none the less gone out and rejoiced in the fact that she was in Paris. And…little by little, she was able to rejoice in the fact that she had done it all by herself and with little to no interference from a certain commitment phobic frog.

Getting the editor gig at Vogue had been a stroke of luck or rather, a chance meeting with a current Vogue model who happened to be a big Miss Piggy fan. Who knew that Cindy Crawford loved every zany epic that the group had ever put out? Even the ones that they themselves thought pure drivel. Cindy’s connection with some of the Paris staff helped get Piggy in the door and while Vogue had been after her for quite some time in the states, French Vogue – though aware of who she was – didn’t really know what she could do.

And so, she showed them.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

This week however quickly reminded the leading lady of why she loved Hollywood and the very reasons she wanted to be back in Cali. Her house, for one, had meant to be a comfortable, safe shelter when the world got too out of hand. Unfortunately, she hadn’t thought of finding shelter in the case that home got out of hand, but that was neither here nor there for the moment; the point however, was the fact that she only needed to tough it out for the next few days and she’d be going home.

And that was all that really mattered.

[hr]

It was here.

Today was the day that Miss Piggy was done with her editor position in Paris and would be heading back to the United States. And the diva had never been happier, quite happy actually. And it just so happened that this particular was the best day she’d had since arriving.

Her Wednesday morning arrival had kicked off a week of badly suppressed remarks, catty insinuations, and witchy behind the back comments, but today, this Tuesday morning, was looking to be the best one yet. Not only had she gotten up earlier than usual, she had been greeted with a lovely gift basket that she knew only Kermit (and Scooter) could have supplied.

Then, when coming downstairs with her luggage, the concierge had been gracious enough to call for her taxi and even placed her bags within the car. Her driver had been especially flirty and sweet and hadn’t even charged her for the ride. And work! Oh work today had been wonderful!

Just as she predicted, she had received her bon voyage party with everyone at Vogue in attendance. She was able to say goodbye to the people she loved, the people she liked, the people she tolerated, the people she hated but didn’t say anything to their faces, and the people she loathed and enjoyed telling them to their faces. The upper management had even taken her to dinner and Maurice, the dear, had been so kind as to drive her to the airport.

Yes, her last day in Paris had been a treat, despite not being able to visit some of her favorite places. Piggy resolved that perhaps in a few months or a year, she would return and hopefully she wouldn’t be alone this time. Now all she had to do was get on her plane and take the very long trip back to the states.

Hah -- of COURSE the infighting would have drawn lines! Wow, I never even thought of that but it seems so obvious. And certainly there must still be some smouldering resentment over the big bang which sent Piggy to Paris in the first place. Good thing it was Gonzo who so subtly let Kermit know this...and not, say, Sweetums...

A very good installment! Love Kermit's retorts to Gonzo's cheerful observations. And is Camilla...er...eggbound? Does that mean we may have TWO real weddings to plan here? Yeek...what does one give a weirdo and a chicken for a wedding gift? Or a baby shower? (A chick shower? It's raining hens, hallelujah!)

:news: Here is a chicken news flash! Sources close to the famous poultry diva inform us that Camilla the Chicken will wed her longtime beau, Gonzo the Weird!

Uh...Newsie...that's not official yet.

:news: *blushing, muttering as he trudges off* Sorry...slow week...

Keep going WMG!

:concern: Weapons of Mass Ginormousness?
:shifty: Weirdos of Masterful Generosity?
:concern: Generosity?

It was one of those 'dreams in a dream that leaves in a dream' thing. I had planned on Gonzo telling Kermit had been a jerk to Piggy, but as I was writing, the idea that the Muppets would OF COURSE have to take sides (like any friend does in these types of situations) occurred to me, as did the notion that Kermit (as with anyone else) would assume that everyone would be on his side and is stunned and surprised that actually, no, not everyone would be.

A very good installment! Love Kermit's retorts to Gonzo's cheerful observations.
As did I. I like sarcastic Kermit from the early seasons of TMS and TMM, so I figure I'll bring him back. Guess what I decided to watch right now, btw? Powell & Loy's Thin Man.

And is Camilla...er...eggbound? Does that mean we may have TWO real weddings to plan here? Yeek...what does one give a weirdo and a chicken for a wedding gift? Or a baby shower? (A chick shower? It's raining hens, hallelujah!)
I...cannot say. Even I don't know. However, I thought Gonzo the best person to tell and/or show Kermit that even in the worst of times, there can be the best of times.

Yeah, I can't confirm nor deny what exactly might be taking place. At this moment in time.

You're doing a great job with this story! I really enjoy the take you have on Kermit and Gonzo's friendship and Kermit's reaction that the Muppets may be as loyal to Piggy as they are to him. She may get on their nerves sometimes, but they know that she's just as much a major part of keeping the Muppets together as Kermit is and when it really counts, Piggy's always there.

I can't wait to read more- please post more soon!

And here it is - the end of Monday Dinner Date! Thanks to everyone who has read so far and have enjoyed. What's next, Gina? Well, this may not be the end of our Mondays...got an idea for something I call 'Monday Post-Production', coming soon. In the meantime, I just started the sequel to 8 Ball, which will be the second in something I call the Pool Hall series.

Stay tuned for Seven Ball Tango!

Also...Mr. Count Moderator sir, could you make sure that the Monday series here comes before the Pool Hall series? Obviously, the Mondays take place after the 2011 movie, while Pool Hall is well after the revisited Muppet Show is back. Thank you

Flying from Paris, France to that of LAX in Los Angeles, California was exhausting. Piggy couldn’t remember ever feeling so drained and tired before; and it wasn’t as if she hadn’t made this trip before. But in hindsight, her trips from Cali to Paris and then back again had been fueled with anger, which in the right hands, can build up as much energy as running a triathlon around the state of New York.

The frog’s assistant had of course come through by booking her on first class the whole way back and then making sure that someone would be at the airport to pick her up. Apparently even the assistant couldn’t prevent Kermit from circumventing, as her ride was the 80’s robot, who proceeded to go through the entire roster of 1980’s slang and pop culture references the entire trip.

Not to say it was terribly bad – it did put her to sleep for about thirty minutes.

By the time she awoke, she was being driven up through the driveway that connected to the house. Though she couldn’t see a face at first, the silhouette was definitely the resident frog of the house and the fact that he had waited up for her, at nearly midnight, made her want to give the effort of smiling tiredly at him. “Bon jour, mon cher,” she greeted.

“Morning, Piggy.”

“It is morning, isn’t it?” she asked, taking a glance at her watch.

“Well,” the frog shrugged. “Anytime after midnight is usually the start of a brand new day.”

“A wonderful point made, Monsieur Frog.”

“Tired?”

“Exhausted,” she admitted. “And hungry. I just realized I haven’t eaten since about three o’clock.”

“Well Mademoiselle,” Kermit replied, bowing slightly. “If you just entre this way, I will seat you at the best table in the house. Which just so happens to be in the kitchen. It’s not the Ritz, but…”

Piggy threw an arm around the green Muppet’s shoulders, hugging him tightly. “The Ritz is not home,” she said. “Lead the way.”

A satisfying dinner of a pastrami and salami sandwich with a small side salad later, both Kermit and Piggy found themselves on their color coordinated couch, just lounging about and talking about their time apart. It seemed almost natural for the two of them to be cuddled up so closely – Kermit arm hanging off the back of the couch, enabling him to sweep the bangs off her forehead every once in a while, where Piggy found comfort in playing with the point collar that adorned the frog’s neck.

“And then he punched me,” the frog was saying, explaining what had happened when he had spoken with their resident daredevil the night she left. “But he was sorry for doing it; at least, I’m pretty sure he was. Then I saw Scooter on Wednesday like we normally do. We’re thinking next week would probably be a good time to get another show started.”

Pausing to give the pig a chance to say something, like “how dare he!” and “if Gonzo thinks that he can just punch out a frog, he has another thing coming”, but all Kermit got was quiet. For good reason, too, as Piggy’s eyes were closed and the motion around his collar had started to dwindle down.

“Piggy?”

“Hmm?” came the sleepy reply.

“Still with me?”

“Hmmm…”

“What did I just say?”

“Something…rutabaga.”

“Not even close,” he smiled. He had forgotten that when she was drifting off into dreamland, most things around her ceased to exist; but she was awfully cute when she started rambling. “Piggy Lee…”

That time, he managed to get a growl from her. She always did hate that name. “Frog…”

Chuckling, he leaned over and brushed a kiss across her forehead. “C’mon darlin’,” he said. “Time for bed.”

“You’re actually going to make me get up?”

“If you want to sleep in a soft bed,” he retorted. “And I know you want to sleep in a soft bed. Come on; up and at ‘em.”

“I'll up and at you,” was her complaint, but she none the less managed to get on her own two weary feet and – with help – made the journey from the living room to that of the master bedroom. Even in her sleepy state, Piggy noted that Kermit was being extremely gentlemanly and sweet, letting her take the room that was bigger and had the softer bed, just like she had planned it; she even managed to catch the slight drawl in his voice as he roused her. Though he didn’t have much of one, every now and then his Southern boy charm and hospitable accent would surface and that made him all the more attractive to her.

His release on her caught her a little off guard and managed to wake her more than his closeness had previously. “Where’re you going?” she asked.

Kermit looked at her, really, as though she had just lost her mind. “Piggy,” he said, slowly. “It’s nearly two o’clock in the morning; I’m going to bed.”

“You’re going that way?”

“There are beds in bedrooms this way, yes.”

Turning to look into the master bedroom behind her, she stated, “There’s a bed in here too.”

“It’s all yours.”

That did cause her to lean against the doorjamb and look at him squarely. He was giving up the bigger bed for her? “It’s a big enough bed,” she replied. “We could share it.”

The look he gave her was probably the same one she held on her face – the prospect of that request had entered both of their minds and neither one of them thought it a good idea, at least not a good idea that might have consequences behind it.

“I promise to behave.”

He couldn’t help but chuckle at that. Walking back over to her, he stated, “My dear, sweet, beautiful Piggy. While I have no doubt that you would try your very best to restrain yourself, that darlin’ is not the problem.”

“It’s not?”

“Oh no,” he whispered. Leaning in closer to her, he finished with, “I can’t guarantee that I would behave.” Piggy had just enough time to seriously give that thought some contemplation when he pulled back with a, “goodnight, dear.”

The tiredness was still there, but that statement did wonders on perking her up for the rest of the night.

Despite going to bed so late – or early – at night, Piggy was wide awake a little seven in the morning. She felt refreshed, odd considering that she had been lacking sleep for a few days, but yet she got out of bed, got in a cute silk pink robe and headed towards the kitchen to make coffee. She passed by the closed door where she figured Kermit had spent the night and resisted the urge to open it and peek in on him.

His gallant nature last night swelled her heart and for the first time since arriving back stateside, Piggy was convinced that Kermit had missed her as much as she had missed him. That thought awoke her even more that morning, making her smile as started the brewing and took out the two mugs that were theirs, clearly labeled as such to define their domesticity – Boss Frog and Boss Hog.

It was rare for her to be the first one up in the house, but with so many things going on, it was hard to stay asleep. She had been exhausted yesterday and yet, just a few hours in her beau’s presence seemed to make her come alive even when she hadn’t felt like it. The years between them made it so easy to just forgive him for every miscommunication, every denial, every hurtful word he had ever said to her and truthfully, Piggy would have loved to just pull the shades down on those years of being apart and forget they even happened.

But she knew, deep down, that would only create a much bigger problem until they would just continue their epic blowups until eventually, they would never see each other again. And after going through it once, the diva was definitely sure she didn’t want to go through it again.

The sounds of the front door opening and closing, as well as the soft undertones of singing, stopped her musings in their tracks. There was a brief moment of panic before her mind readjusted itself and reminded her what day it was; sure enough, Scooter Grosse came walking by, singing some song under his breath. She watched bemusedly as he unslung his laptop bag off his shoulder and deposited it in the kitchen booth. Scooter had never been a snappy dresser, preferring the t-shirt/jeans combination, and always with the battered Muppet Show jacket they had given him for his birthday one year.

Today’s ensemble was actually a departure for him and Piggy wondered if his tastes had changed since working at that Internet company – clothed in a striped green polo shirt, accompanied by dark khaki shorts, sandals, and a green baseball cap with the letters LBC turned backwards on his head. While it wasn’t something she may have condone in any other case, she had to secretly admit, it was a good look for the assistant.

“I can only guess that someone’s been spending time with the Electric Mayhem,” she announced, causing the assistant to turn sharply from the table in surprise.

“Well, well, well,” he said, smiling as he walked towards her. “You’re certainly a beautiful sight for sore eyes.” Delivering a kiss to her proffered cheek, Scooter made his way towards the refrigerator, asking, “Are you officially back from Paris?”

“I am,” she replied, watching as he took out cream, as well as another coffee mug. He then poured the cream into the mug and shook it slightly at her. “You’re doing okay by yourself,” she said, gesturing towards the coffee machine on the counter behind her. He gave her a chuckle, taking his mug and heading over to said machine.

“So where’s Boss Frog?”

“Still sleeping.”

“Really?”

“Get your mind out of the gutter.”

“I didn’t say anything!” Scooter exclaimed, a shocked look on his face.

“You were thinking it.”

“I most certainly was not,” the go-fer huffed. “Ew. You two are practically parentals, that...that's…ew.”

“What’s he ewing about?”

“I’ve just ruined his delicate sensibilities,” Piggy commented.

Kermit smirked, reaching for the coffee mug that had mysteriously filled itself at his arrival. “You did that long time ago,” he said.

“Morning, Chief.”

“Scooter,” the frog greeted. “Before you even say anything, coffee first.”

“Of course,” the assistant replied. “I also brought food.”

“You’re an angel,” Kermit murmured.

“Please,” Scooter retorted. “I know you’d starved if I didn’t provide for you.”

“What about those poor people in your mountain stronghold?” asked the diva, causing Kermit to look up in confusion. “Oh didn’t you know? Scooter’s a diabolical madman with a mountain stronghold.”

“Figures.”

The morning started as most Wednesdays did, with Scooter and Kermit sitting down to discuss their pre-production schedule, while Piggy did what she usually did – lounge by their pool and offer helpful suggestions. Despite all the uncertianity and distance, things looked to be getting back to normal; as Piggy glanced at the frog, he caught her eye and smiled.

Yes, they’d probably be okay in the end.

Yay. This positively reaked of ushgush, in a good way. Nice to see just a peak of Kermit's southern background. *Laughs at Scooter's intrusion on the frog's pad. Good to know that the pig is back and staying... More intrigued to see how you develop this in your continuing series. Now lemme go add this story and you go start 7 Ball Tango, please?

aww that was such a great story- I enjoyed your take on the characters a lot and you write beautifully! I hope there may be an eventual sequel to this because I would love to see how Kermit and Piggy's relationship continues to grow from here.

Fantastic Job!

The 7 Ball Tango? Never heard of it, but I would love to read it once you get it started. (Sighs) I loved this story. Gina, you are a great writer. If you are staying in character, you are hooking up the readers.

Thank you! Actually, I've already started 7 Ball; may post the first part during lunch today.

Mini tanks! Glad you enjoyed it. No worries - as I posted last time, I like keeping continuity in every fandom, so there will of course be more Kerms and Piggy to come!

Oh and in case I forget - Happy early Birthday!

7 Ball Tango is the sequel to 8 Ball Rhumba, which is now listed in the big ole library of Muppet fan fiction here. If you head to the main fan fic/forum listing, it's the first link and I'm at the bottom of the finished fics listings.

Actually, you can thank our great moderator, The Count, for not only the title of the sequel, but that of the third (and possibly) fourth stories in the series as well. I liked them so much, I made them official.
