Marty (& everyone)
In my opinion,Myspace is somewhat bad news. Not just because of the language over there, but some people disguise themselves as celebrities.
I was going to start a blog over there & decided to see if a celebrity that I know of had a blog. (take a wild guess who) So I looked, and he was listed as having a blog.BUT IT WAS AN IMPOSTER! How did I know this? Because some other so called "celebrities" were on this person's friend's list & one of them has been dead since last year.Meanwhile she posted something not long ago (I'd say 2 months ago) So....unless there's Internet in Heaven, which I doubt strongly,it wasn't her.
I Emailed myspace & notified them of the imposter.THEN I notified the celebrity himself.I got an Email back from the actual celebrity himself a few days later!:excited: He thanked me for letting him know, and then myspace Emailed me telling me the imposter had been banned.
(It just occured to me that I might have mentioned all this sooner in here.If I have, sorry)
Uh....OOPS! I went back several pages & realized I DID mention it. The thread has the title "Victory is MINE!!"

I never had a problum with My Space as far as running into weirdos. I'm kind of seletive on who I allow to communicate with anyway. But I guess I wasn't interesting enough for anyone to notice lol. Sorry it didn't work out for you Marty but I don't think it's all that bad.

As far we weirdo sites are concered I think Yahoo is a big red flag. I always get trouble from there.

I don't have a my space account, so I don't know much about it. I do think your safety greatly depends on your own conduct on the web.

But as far as I'm concerned, myspace been in the news a little too often lately. I doubt they have the ability or the desire to properly protect its members.

Thank you for sharing that with me Kathy. I'll have to take a look at your original thread.
Some people like to impersonate celebrities in one way or another. They probably just crave the attention the deceived fans will lavish upon them.

Thanks to you as well Lana and Heralde. I do agree it could be a good site in some ways but extreme care needs to be taken at all times.
It's such a shame you can't enjoy your own space without being surrounded by weirdos and imposters. But you probably are better off in the long run learning how to put your own profile page together and posting it on the web for the general public to view and reply to.
Care enough needs to be exercised with that as it is and it's probably much less dangerous by comparison.

I'm bumping this up to make sure my friends all have a chance to notice it so that they don't worry about being taken off my friends list at MySpace

Hmmm... I love myspace ((sighs)) sorry ya'll. But it is rediculous how people treat others, and they add random strangers, but the thing is, they put it on themselves, they added the person to begin with. The other thing is with the sick people out there wanting to meet younger people, they have a privacy option, but they add strangers anyway, its rediculous. The girls who do that to themselves are rediculous, they put themselves out there just being disgusting. But, my thing is to be caucious, watch who you add, if you dont know them, dont add them. It's simple, but many people only care how many friends they have in there friend list. Which I think is very stupid. But I am still keeping my account, because, the fact is that many of my friends who have moved, i get to re-connect with etc. So its also a way to meet with old friends too. I have my pros and cons about Myspace.com. But the fact of the matter is to be smart, and just add people you know. Also, the language has been part of our culture, I cuss, i admit, it's wrong, but its hard to stop, but some people on there Myspace pages have cuss words as every other word in the sentence, which i think is rediculous, I hardly have too much cussing on my page alone. But anyways, you made a smart decision Marty.
I agree with all you've said, Barry. I don't understand what is so immoral about Myspace. Sure, there are some sick people there, but there are some sick people everywhere and you don't have to add them to your buddy list if you don't want to. You choose your friends. As far as the people that send you friend requests, if they look like sketchy dirty girls, they are and it's spam anyway. I'll bet if you replied to one of their messages, they will never reply back again, because they aren't real. Barry is right. Just make the right choices.
