Dick Van Dyke is one of the last of the great American entertainers and show men. He has always been one of my favorites as a performer and human being. Such a wonderful spirit and sense of humor that keeps him seeming so much younger than he is. He was my hero in Mary Poppins and I hope to be as exuberant as him when I turn 80.

Here's a funny story that Dick Van Dyke used to tell. As you may know, he not only played Bert in Mary Poppins but also Mr. Dawes, Sr. (the old man at the bank). On the days when he would be playing the old man and they would break for lunch, he would go to lunch still with his costume on (because it would be a hassel to take off the makeup/prostetics and then put it all on again). When he would walk to the comessary, the studio tour bus would stop for him to cross the road. He would start walking ever so slowly just like a 90 year old man might.....sooo...sloooow... When he finally got across, the bus would proceed. Van Dyke then would start running as fast as he can passing the bus and wave to everybody.

A great showman with non-stop-flowing wholesome energy inside a very big heart!
I like your characterization of Dick. A concise way to describe him in a nutshell and really says it all.
