Frogboy, they do it that way because, when shooting at 1.85:1, it's more expensive to shoot hard-matted (with black bars on the negative). So they shoot at the more squarish aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and cut off the top and bottom (which, most of the time, are never intended to be seen).
