Yes and no... sometimes they're so damaging, they can't get any work period, they wind up completely broke and have the difficult choice of having to grab very terrible roles or become a janitor or something. And it DOES have a dangerous psychological effect in cases.

I think if there's ONE thing Family Guy said that was an absolute truth was that Harrison Ford was the only person who's career wasn't destroyed by that film. Of course, Mark Hamil found voice over work, and it's the best work he's ever done! Carton voice over work should never be anything to be ashamed of. Heck, Mark's Joker is more iconic than Jack, Ceasar, and Heat combined! And he only did him for that one show and some of the spin offs.

But for "fans" to scold an actress for trying to start a career beyond one thing because it makes them a bad role model due to the nature of the other roles (PG or...gasp... PG-13 movies) is shameful. It's not like she went into hard core porn.

That said, I like how the biggest Disney Tween Star was Shea leBeouf, and even though he's in these high profile movies, he ALWAYS complains about how bad they were. Yeah, like Hillary Duff was the star of 3 toy based action films that somehow keep getting high BO numbers. But then again, Transformers 2 was apparently hideous...

My great grandmother was a cleaning lady at a university dorm she could never dream of going to herself. We do what we have to do, you know?

I remember a few years ago they had Miley on a TV show and all the goofy adults were praising her for being the one bastion of hope amongst all the troublesome teen stars. I thought, "Jeez, this girl does not need more pressure right now!"

I know this is a kind of old thread but I read this conversation a few years ago and just came across it again today. It's a really interesting discussion and equally interesting to see how far TV has come in just four short years. Animation was really just starting to make a comeback in 2011 when this thread was started. Now we have even more great cartoons now like Steven Universe,Gravity Falls. I wonder what you guys' impressions of shows like Girl Meets World,Jessie,ANT Farm and Austin and Ally are.

It's still a thing, but not a strong one. Though there seems to be a pick up with Descendants.

My only major complaint with Disney Channel is that XD should be required for the basic cable package. I like the idea in theory of having a channel for tweenage girls and one for 10 year old boys, but if you don't get both of them, it doesn't work, and that hurts the ratings for the actual good shows XD has. I find kid coms the way I've always did. They're just recycled tropes from every series before it. And I guess it doesn't matter to anyone under the age of 15, since they didn't see every single 1980's sitcom and Saved by the Bell knockoff years ago. They don't care that they're just rehashing the same old "parents gone for the weekend and kids have a party that goes out of hand fast" story that wasn't good the first time. Still, it's a shame that these cartoon series get to make sophisticated references to things and it's almost like they're made specifically for other older cartoon viewers while tweencoms can just limp around being pale Xeroxes of xeroxes.

It started as a TV movie, but was spun off into a series of animated shorts helmed by an ex-Phineas & Ferb writer.

And another thing I don't like. While they all had their similarities, shows like Wizards of Waverly Place,That's So Raven,Even Stevens,Lizzie McGuire,Hannah Montana and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody were all at least trying to be different but now all of Disney Channel's shows and actors seem so interchangeable and void of any personality whatsoever. Even the main characters are the same on every show. The show's have gotten so bad that the shows are starting to base their entire premises on tropes used in other shows i.e. K.C. Undercover which is pretty much just the "sneaky/dress up" part of That's So Raven. Or, I DIDN'T DO IT which is basically just "I did this thing behind my parents' back, such as having a wild party or going skydiving". And did I mention they always have the exact same characters.

Yeah. I don't get why the world desperately needs Liv and Maddie. The fact that at least 2 of their shows are just "[Name] And [Name]" is telling that they just don't care. Of course, I never really liked these kinds of shows anyway. I'll admit Even Stevens was surprisingly entertaining. But I just never liked these kinds of young tween/teen shows. I never liked Saved by the Bell. I understand that there are those who do and have a nostalgic fondness for it, and it seems their main audience nowadays is all ironic. But I share the conspiracy theory that NBC's 1992 Saturday Morning Line Up was NBC purposely trying to kill its own animated programming to make more carbon copies of SBTB. And other than California Dreams, I can't remember a single one of them.

Hey. Remember in the late 80's and very early 90's where everyone was obsessed with California?

Somebody started a thread quite some time back bashing JESSIE as a show, saying it had irritating, unlikeable characters that promoted trouble-making among kids, or something like that.

Yeah the kids on that show are whiny, spoiled and manipulative and their adult role model (the title character) often encourages their behavior. And on top of that all kids are stereotypes: the nerdy indian kid,the sassy black girl, the shallow blonde. The show is unfunny and the characters rarely get any consequences for their actions.

Why?
http://www.ew.com/article/2016/11/18/hannah-montana-marathon-disney-channel

That is an earnest, genuine question. Why is this happening? Who is the marathon for? Are they just trying to get the nostalgic viewers or are they trying recapture the glory days with a new audience? And in any case, wouldn't this be slightly confusing to the current younger audience to have this show just randomly appear on the schedule for one day and then just completely disappear?
