Are Ernie and Bert gay?

Does anybody own a copy of 123, Count With Me? I think in the opening of the video, when Humphrey and Ingrid ask Ernie to take over the front desk, he says something about being six.

Hope I didn't give the impression that I don't support people's right to make their own choices. I don't think it's an insult, either.

I think that's because they find the question irritating more than anything else. This rumour about Ernie and Bert's sexuality has been circulating for quite a few years. It's been asked (and answered) countless times elsewhere on the internet. For some people it's a serious inquiry. But most of the time, it just gets asked out of silliness. It's getting a bit stale and to be honest I can't believe this thread has taken up three pages so far.

In American culture, guys who spend that much time together are considered a couple. It's kind of sad that people only think in steriotypes, but I think it's cute when people dress up as Ernie and Bert for the parades here and for Halloween in the Castro. It's all in good fun, tounge-in-cheek-type humor. We all know they are just puppet best friends. Hey, why hasn't anyone ever questioned Statler and Waldorf? I know they have wives, but we hardly ever see them and they never invite them out. I'm certainly not questioning it, but I find it strange that the Ernie and Bert connection isn't made with them too. Maybe it's because they are old.

It is a letter regarding the 'gay' question and, after Jim died, the supposed 'retirement' of Ernie.

Can't agree more. That's why I am against this question. I mean, you can say any two male roommates living together are Gay, but they aren't. When I hear this question, I think of 9-12 year old boys saying... "Ernie and Bert are gay... and the Muppets suck. Come on, let's go watch Jack*ss and porn!!!" that's what makes me mad. Anyway, if it's an educated guess, I wouldn't mind, as long as you back it up with facts. Just don't assume....

i just want to say that i think it's kind of interesting that in "do de rubber duck" ernie is in the tub, and bert comes knocking on the door with a towel. doesn't he know that ernie is in there?

lol ... but i don't think they're gay. i find it hard to believe that Sesame Street has been trying to sub consciously promote homosexuality through bert and ernie all these years
