Ok, so juggling a new baby, a three year old, orders for Christmas and some short video work is a bit hectic, but that doesn't mean I can't find the time to kick start a new series of short webisodes featuring TV presenter David Parkinson Frost.
Mainly for people in the UK, or at least anyone...
So I promised two new puppets and here is the second of them - inspired by the hairy wonders of ZZ Top, he is Old Man Tucker, the oldest rocker in town, and judging by his photo shoot he can still rock out with his sock out.
Hi all,
The first of two newly completed puppets, which somehow managed to be finished despite having a new baby in the house, Shaun is an energetic, preppy alien and is kind of falling into a character gap I had in a video series I'm developing. Rather than antron, he was made of normal polar...
I really couldn't work out what to use for arm rods until recently. I came across someone on ebay selling a load of steel rods (they were all greasy and clumped together from being in a mechanics car workshop so needed a little cleaning up) and they worked perfect. I think it depends how sturdy...
So, while i have been waiting for a) some material coming from the US for an order and b) our new child to arrive (that's natural and not from the US), I thought it was time to finish two of my new puppets for myself. With just a couple of loose ends to tie up, literally, and a few adjustments...
Yes the one thing I wasn't fully happy with were the eyes. I tried a load of different things and almost came close with a makeup foundation lid but it was too small although it was the perfect shape. So in the end I had to settle for half domes sunken into the foam of the skull. I think they...
I would agree with both of those methods...if you're trimming the fur, I find it best to press the spoon into the fur for a few seconds so it leaves an imprint of where the fur needs to be trimmed and then cut just inside it. It saves you having a "**** i cut too much" moment.
Here are some pictures of a replica of Kate Monster from Avenue Q.
One thing i didn't realise would be so hard was making the eyes work without custom vacuum forming them. They did end up a little rounder than the original's but they worked overall.
Hope you like her.
Ok, so after much delay...Here are a couple of pictures of the finished Lucy. The problem I have had is that I took a load of photos but due to moving house i didn't take them off the memory card. When i found the memory card, for some reason, the little piece of plastic that stops you wiping...
I must have missed this when it was first posted. I know what you mean about never being happy to leave the things that niggle you.
He is perfect though, without a doubt the best one.
All i will say is never make Animal - I didn't intend making the second one but in the end the first one was...
I have used out of the box puppets and they are always great to work with - both in service and quality. If that is the same as the one I was sent as a swatch with an order of mine then it is very close to current Kermit colour.
Hey Chris,
If you ever resurrected it and needed an Animal we would need to work something out with greenscreen and file sharing with me being in the UK but I'm more than happy to offer his services :)
A bit late i know, but i think i have some of that antron - i bought it from out of the box puppets for something like $8 a yard - it isn't a solid colour though. you could just see in the pictures on ebay very faint but it was more of a striped effect (although it worked for what i needed it...
Well if you're lazy I'm guilty as well lol. The last time i bought some I got two large white remnants (about 60 inches by 90 inches each) a similar size of "flesh" colour (which is a nightmare to dye right) and I think it was a orange/brown piece that was on offer at the time. I also threw in a...
A bit of a late reply but for reticulated foam i had previously bought mine from a seller on ebay but when i tried to get 1/2 inch foam the next time they didn't do it any more.
I used the foam shop and the only problem was the thinnest they do in sheet foam is 2.25cm. However they were great...
I could be completely wrong with this but the head movement reminds me very much of a nodding dog/bobble head. Possibly with only a vertical pivot though. If you watch the movement it is mostly instigated by the angle the puppet is held and the movement of the body so a pivot of some kind would...
For me it depends on how many you are attaching . For a full head like Animal i bought full feathers and hot glued strips of organza the same colour as the skin to the bottom of the spines before cutting the spines from the main feather. Then i glued them to the head in layers which only meant...
I didn't sell this guy the first time around, but due to an influx of orders/a house move/a need for more shelf room and all the jazz in the world that goes with it - Billy is up for sale on eBay again. It's only a short auction so it ends on Sunday evening.
Here is his new link - Starting...
Just remembered that I meant to post a few more pictures of DPF but ended up caught up in a couple of orders and completely forgot. So, here they are along with a YouTube link to just one of the things this guy has been up to recently.
