    My first time..

Of the first puppets for which I used a sewing machine, they all turned out to be frogs. Even still, its hard for me to not make a puppet look like a frog. *sigh* someday. Really great job. My first puppets were *TERRIBLE* http://web.mac.com/puppetslam/iWeb/Profiles/GreatArizona-Gallery.html...

    The Foam Book

Everyone should buy it from the Puppeteers of America shop... Just a little plug, there. When Drew actually did the demo for us, it was a lot more helpful. I'd say my 2nd or 3rd generation of making puppets (am I on generation 15 now?) was using the foam book method...i think it was a good...

    A question about mics

I just recently talked to the director at our theater. She said they use lavalier so they can turn their head away when a character is calling from off-stage and things like that. So it sounds like I need to figure out the needs for all the shows we do and invest in a mic that will suit those...

    My 2-D/Stop Motion Hybrid

So when I was in High School I did a short stop-motion/2-D animation for a history class I was in. um..yah, it was on notebook paper & they didn't ask to see it twice. There's a reason for that. Again, i repeat that it was on notebook paper. very well done.

    Going to New York

I was supposed to leave for NY tomorrow to teach a puppetry workshop in Brooklyn, but nobody signed up! (boooo!) so I had to cancel my flight today...I'm a little extra jealous of you right now. Anyway, Josh and Tamra are based out of NY. Blending improvised theater and puppetry... There's...

    A question about mics

But why a headset as opposed to one you clip to your shirt (lavalier)?

    A question about mics

I've only performed using lavalier mics in the past (and one on a mic stand, but let's not talk about how terribly that went). What's the benefit of using one on a head-band? Which do you prefer?

    Polyfoam Puppet Help!

I get the sheet foam and then use staples and hot-glue. But my polyfoam puppets never turn out to be terribly amazing. I'd recommend a dremel tool bit with a sander on it to make things smooth after they're cut. John Kennedy did that for me in a workshop and my life has never been the same.

My Business Idea: A REAL Muppet Show

I think if you're in a city that regularly goes to performance venues, it can happen. I don't think they'd work here in Phoenix. But It would work in a place like Chicago (I think...then again, I've never been to Chicago, so who am I to talk?) . It might be much like most art gallery owners...

    Random Puppet-Building Tips

Well, really that's the trick. I mean, if you don't want them to kill you in your sleep, I suggest finding a hobo and using his blood as well as your own. As far as attaching the mouth plate, I machine sittch my fabric in first, then attach the mouthplate afterwards with glue. I tried doing it...

My Business Idea: A REAL Muppet Show

A puppet slam is described as the modern day burlesque. you can find out more at http://www.puppetslam.com Our theater holds puppet slams about 4-6 times a year, usually when we have a guest artist. We have a host (I hosted our last slam with a puppet--not sure if I'll continue doing that)...
