Granted this is an international message board, but I'm curious how many of us are in the P of A.

It really depends on the school and the duration of the workshops (weekend vs 8 week class).

    Eyes & Glue Troubles...

He definitely was a learning experience. I think you're right, to go back to him now would only frustrate me more. Ah yes, the box of misfit puppet bits. I've got one of those for sure. I did try the larger dome eyes as well as my favorite ping pong balls. I wasn't pleased with any of them. I...

    Inside the Cube Ideas

Anytime! If you've got the funds, taking an improv workshop or two at the PIT might really help with your writing of sketches. I coach a team that does both improv & sketch comedy, and a lot of the time they'll take their sketches directly from characters & scenes they've discovered in practice...

    Eyes & Glue Troubles...

Ok so everything i tried didn't work. The glue was a mess, the eyes still wouldn't stick, no matter how much I roughed that one on the right up. I ripped them out, had to cover them up with the bags, but didnt have the fabric I wanted and, well, I guess the moral is that I'm just too impatient...

    My new puppets

That's really freaking adorable. I have a bin full of those wonderful fabrics...It's an illness.

    Eyes & Glue Troubles...

Oh hey, i don't mind at all! In fact, thank you very much! The bags are a great idea! My dear, sweet existing mess. How often you and I have snuggled under a warm glue gun. And yes, I adore the advice given & relationships built here. I just bought some plastic safety puppet eyes (the big...

    Eyes & Glue Troubles...

oh wow, that's a great idea! The beads aren't that heavy, and drilling a small hole with a small screw on the inside would definitely work for this guy. Most of my puppets dont have foam directly under their eyes, but this guy does. Just drill a small hole into the bead, then slap a screw in...

    Eyes & Glue Troubles...

OHhhhh that's brilliant! I knew it had something to do with the smoothness of the eyeball, but I hadn't thought of roughing it up a bit. I'll take it to my local thugs to get roughed up. Hopefully I can get that same eye back on in that same position...

    Eyes & Glue Troubles...

Ok I'm a bit stumped. I normally use ping pong balls, doll safety eyes, pom-poms or other plastic-y materials. I've glued some wooden beads on this guy: http://www.flickr.com/photos/staceyrebecca/1584142344/ You can see the trouble I'm having already with the glue on the puppet's right eye...

    New JibJab Puppet Sendables

The idea behind Satan being an adorable fuzzy that sings as he bobs along absolutely thrills me. Well done!

    A question about mics

This is really great advice, guys. Keep it coming. I know the director at the Great AZ Puppet Theater swears by lav mics up and down, also said something about Shure. Telex I think is the one she really wants me to get (if only I had $750 to blow per mic, right?)

    Going to New York

I was half-joking, but hopeful that it was indeed allowed. So far I think my deductions far outweigh my income this year. Puppet Rampage helped with that. But it was all sooo worth it.

    Inside the Cube Ideas

You've opened up a floodgate. I teach improv... A relationship based sketch focuses on developing the characters' relationships with one another, rather than a situation that random people get into that have an ambiguous relationship. You could also say that they're emotionally based. Where...

    TVTV enters the 21st century...

Gordon, can I say how rad you are that you tell people to go watch it before you have to tell the guy to take it down? Its loading now ;) I can't wait! -stacey

    My first time..

I think "less frog-like" is just going to come with practice. Also in what kind of eyes you use, how you place them, the extra features on your puppet (eyes, nose, hair), etc. I'd get Puppet Planet by John Kennedy...I'm a fan of that one for new puppet builders.

    Inside the Cube Ideas

Its right by Madison Square Garden 154 W. 29th Street Stands for People's Improv Theater My suggestion as an improviser is to, rather than have situationally based sketches, have relationship-based sketches. You'll get way more out of your characters and your audience that way.

    Inside the Cube Ideas

Kuriboh, Since you're in NY, you might want to look into getting some improvisers to help out. I'd head over to the PIT (or UCB, but I'm more of a PIT girl, myself) & either sign up for workshops, or just find out if there are any mid-level students in want of playing with some puppets. I've...

    Going to New York

Ok this has very little to do with New York, but you'd mentioned that you were going to go see Avenue Q and I just saw the touring show yesterday in Tucson. *giggle* I'm hoping I can count it as a write-off since all but two of my puppet shows are for adults. It's research, right?
