Hey RottenPuppets,
I ended up dubbing most of the audio in episode 1. The upside to that is that I was able to get the performers to say the lines until it was how I wanted, but the downside is that I have to get them in again, it's tricky to synch up, and added, since I've got a day job, about...
One of the differences in the two implementations is that with the more expensive soundboard route, you get to maintain each incoming track as a separate audio track, whereas with just the mixer + mics, it would all go into the computer as a single stream, and would minimize my ability to, say...
Yeah, I was looking at M-audio yesterday. The person I talked to at my local audio store suggested what was actually a presonus, I think, a "firebox", though there are a bunch of products in the price range, then adding in a mixer to bring in two additional mics.
Given the cost of the wireless...
The shotgun mic that my Sony camera supports requires it to be connected, and there's no cord.
I wonder if a shotgun/boom mic would work, even if I was recording separately. Hmm.
That's genius, bezalel! I made a hand based on sidebottom's video, and my only real problem was the lack of springiness. I think an elastic band would fix it up.
Still, a tutorial would be great to have. :)
That's awesome, Sidebottom. Does the cardboard hold the shape all on its own? It looked almost springy when you let go of the wire; that hand just seemed to pop back open.
Really nice puppet.
The Sony has only this hot-shoe, and it uses only Sony products, unfortunately. They've got a Bluetooth wireless thing, but it's expensive, and I haven't been able to find out if it supports multiple microphones or not.
Recording the audio track to my computer and then compositing it after...
Thanks for the links, renegade. What did you use them for? Was it a live thing, or for recording for video?
The Sony mic looks pretty killer, but I sadly don't have that much to spend on it. I'll be getting something in the middle of these two extremes, I imagine.
I'm wondering about...
Hey all,
So now that I've got the first episode of dotBoom up, I am attempting to ingest the various lessons learned during the filming. One of the most prominent lessons is that the built-in mic just doesn't cut it, what with the accoustics of a room, and it being omnidirectional. As such, I'm...
Thanks!
A number of the puppets were built using the Project Puppet patterns, either partially or directly. The rest I designed. I built them all myself, which took way longer than I thought it would. :)
I'm glad you like the show!
Thanks, Chino, I'm glad you liked it. It turned out pretty well, I think -- all things considered, including this being my first ever attempt at filming, directing, and puppeteering. The subsequent episodes will be bigger and better, as we iron out all of the kinks.
Yeah, I think the swearing...
Also, would everyone who loves me and has a digg account please digg this: http://digg.com/videos_comedy/dotBoom_a_comedy_with_puppets_and_lots_of_swearing
Because I want the attention, that's why. :)
Thanks!
It's finally done! Huzzah! You can check it out now, at this page, here. I also recorded a commentary track, which you can listen to here.
The show turned out quite well, I think: I'm very happy with the end result, and very, very thankful for the help of my excellent team of puppeteers -- Nick...
