Hey all,
Though I'm still working on the edit of episode 2, I took a little bit of time to put out a commercial for the upcoming show. It's a scene that introduces a new character, Dostoyevsky, to the show. It's pretty funny.
You can see it on the dotBoom site here...
They don't own the footage -- as far as I understand there's no actual rights transferred that would, say, prevent you from producing it if they didn't want you to -- you just grant them the right do distribute it however they see fit, including both free and for-pay.
But it isn't like they...
Great work, Cantus, it looks tremendous. The designs of the puppets are killer, and the greenscreening was excellent.
Also, I was impressed by how Jim Henson-like your characters sounded. That was crazy!
Can't wait to see more!
aaronmojo, I'm glad to hear it. :)
(not about you being vulgar, but about you watching things despite the vulgarities)
Squidbillies?
Chino, are you saying that you think the swearing covered inadequacies in your work, or that you worry that you might use it that way?
Also, I would consider...
I agree with you, aaron, that swearing is most often used as a crutch. Most uses of most things are crutches, to an extent. Swearing can be used very effectively with puppets as it can with human performers -- to show tension, anger, to present character, to do many, many things. (In dotBoom...
I don't think the pigeon-holing is as big a deal as you might think, Rubbe. I don't have any personal experience with it, yet, but I don't think that just having adult puppets means people think you only do adult puppets. The reverse wouldn't be true, would it? If you do a kids show, would you...
I'm very much in favour of swearing puppets, but I think it needs, as does everything, to fit the mood. dotBoom's swearing fits with the environment, and the characters, I think. I can't speak for Puppet television, but I guess the barometer is whether or not it feels forced. If it feels like...
So I'm running a contest, through October 15, where you can submit a design (just a drawing) for "Burkitt," an upcoming character on dotBoom, and win $50 to spend at Threadless.com (they sell awesome t-shirts).
I’ll build the winning design, and it’ll be featured in the show! AND, you’ll get...
gfarkwort, I do a bunch of the voices, and I suppose I was overstating when I said that I was running up against my limits: I was trying to be self-deprecating. I appear to have failed.
Thanks for the links, ChinoXL. I'm looking to get better at the various voices, and to be more professional.
Has anyone here taken such courses? I am considering it, as I'm doing a number of the voices in dotBoom, and while I like to think I've got a decent range, I know it could be much better, and also, I'm running into the maximum number of different voices I've got in my back pocket.
Any...
Depending on how concerned you are about the realism of the fire, you could always add in the fire digitally, after the fact. It would certainly save you from potential damage, and unless you actually need to see the poor puppet turned to ashes, it would probably give you the look you're hoping for.
In my continuing attempt to do things to help promote the show that are atypical, that might, say, catch a person's eye better than your standard banner ad or website badge (though the latter is on my to-do list), I bring you the first in what will be a series of paper doll cutouts...
Hey all,
I'm happy to announce that I've got the puppets for episode 2 of the show complete, and I'm quite happy with how they turned out. There are four new cast members (plus two new guest stars), and if you're interested, you can check them out here.
