    Conferences?

Never mind, it's the Unima conference. Thanks for the link.

    Conferences?

Cool, thanks! Does an Australian conference sound familiar to anyone? I swear I was at their site, but I can't find it anymore.

    Conferences?

Can anyone recommend any puppet conferences? I'm aware of Puppets Up in Canada, but am curious to know about more worldwide affairs. I had looked at a reference to a large one coming up in Australia, but I can't find the listing, now. Can be puppet workshops or a trade show/educational thing...

    Inside Hoggworks

Hey all, Because I have so much free time, I figured I'd start another show. It's called Inside Hoggworks, and this is the description: "This is Hoggworks trying to make the second season of dotBoom, while building several other shows at the same time, and hoping each of which will be...

    Camera rigs?

I suppose I'll have to do some tests. I could see the range of motion I can get with a handicam and some risers. I feel like it won't be enough, and that the risers will be far too in my way, but it might prove much more versatile than I'm thinking it will.

    Camera rigs?

That's a neat looking rig, for sure. It still doesn't solve the height problem, though. Hmm. I may have to go the route of having the camera operator(s) stand on risers, but I hope I can avoid it. The spider brace looks like a good thing to pick up in any case, though. Swank.

    Book Publishers?

That seems to be what I've found, too. (I have an idea for a puppet-themed book, as is likely obvious, and am looking for who to send it to) Seems like something that's going to be fairly popular, but not popular enough to get the right kind of focus, which is a shame.

    Book Publishers?

Hey all, Are there any publishers who are known for puppet-themed books that they put out? I'm not necessarily thinking of puppet-script books, although that would be useful to know, as well. I'm thinking of puppet history, puppet art, and the like. I did some searching through Amazon for...

    Camera rigs?

I was in Henry's last weekend, looking at their tripods. The one I have is pretty flimsy, and I have need of a better one for non-puppet purposes. I suppose, even if I go the route of custom-made handheld rigs, a good, height appropriate tripod would make sense for those times when I don't want...

    Camera rigs?

But how tall does a regular tripod go? Even tilting up, I'd still need to be a 6-8 feet, I'm thinking.

    Camera rigs?

That looks pretty cool. Does that kind of thing do side-to-side movement, or just more of a rotational thing? One of my big concerns is with the amount of space these things take up. I'll be doing all of this out of a 15x30 area, but the shooting area will be at most 10x20, which will include...

    Camera rigs?

Thanks for the ideas, Buck. The jibs sound cool. JD, my problem with the raised platform is getting them in place. I am liking the idea more and more of being able to have the camera operator maneuver freely in the space, and being able to pick from a variety of angles, rather than having to...

    Camera rigs?

Hey JD, I'm going to be building the sets so that the visual component starts at about 5 feet, and goes up to 9 or 10 feet. What would be very cool would be to be able to mimic the same feel of a regular steadicam/handicam movement; I want it to feel like there's a person able to walk through...

    Action Movie Puppets?

Thanks for the link, Blink. I've got something in my head that would be visually Muppet-esque, no animatronics, but action movie-style with precision movement, without the need to go in for close-ups of fists to sell accurate punching, flipping, and the like. I don't know if such a thing is...

    Action Movie Puppets?

Can anybody point me to puppets (muppet-style or otherwise) used in action movie sequences, or involved in physical action? I don't mean stop-motion; I'm thinking of real-time manipulation of puppets that make it look very physically active. I'm thinking of like Miss Piggy when she punches...

    Camera rigs?

Hey all, I'm beginning the long, slow process of not only starting on dotBoom season 2, but reworking just about every aspect of the way I produced the show. As part of that, I'm turning my eye to camerawork, which is to say I want to have some camera work in dB 2 (and the others I'm planning)...

    Puppet Expos/Conferences?

Hey all, Do any of you know of any good/recommendable puppet expos/conferences? I'd like to expose myself to more fo the industry, and that seems as good a way as any. Thanks! Brian

    New puppets!

Thanks for the kind words, everybody. I can't take the credit for the script, only the puppets. :) Also, the outtakes should be pretty funny; there are some genuine flubs, but we also recorded some intentional "outtakes" and behind-the-scenes videos when we were doing the rest (which I'm...
