Yes, you should build a liner into your puppet. It will help it last longer and it will be more comfortable to perform. I used to make liners out of cotton material, now I use spandex. Spandex is great because it's strong, slick and stretchy.
Good luck.:D
Ferret Puppet
Thanks everyone! I’m glad you all like it.:D
intozlight: The mouth is flexible. It has a small gasket rubber grip and felt hinge. Even though the mouth is tiny, it still has a wide rage of motion.
His costume is somewhat changeable. I made him a miniature coat that is...

My understanding is that each feather is attached one by one, and they have to check for broken feathers and replace them on a regular basis. I’ve heard that when Big Bird travels they send a wrangler who checks the feathers each night and replaces the broken ones. I guess that’s why Caroll...
Using feathers
When I’ve worked with feathers, I usually glue them in with a glue gun. I do want to echo what James said about feathered puppets needing special care. Once the feathers start to break, your puppet will start looking ratty really quick. Our puppets get a lot of use and that’s why...
I think as long as the puppet is performed well, and the puppeteer is creating a real character most people don’t notice the arm rods. It’s only when the puppetry is off that the eye starts to wander and notice things like arm rods. It’s kind of like seeing a Muppet performed in person, like...
Puppet Arm Rods
I would advice against joining the rods together. This will severely limit your manipulation possibilities. I think that learning to use arm rods effectively is sort of like learning to use chopsticks - it's challenging at first but once you get it, it becomes automatic. Good...
