OverUnderAround and MWoO: These auditions and recasts have never been about finding the "best" anyone or anything. Nobody at MHC has ever said that -- the only place that's even been mentioned has been here, at Muppet Central. For whatever reason, that's the spin you two guys are putting on...
It's true that Sesame Workshop combines primary performers and understudy performers with some success. Matt Vogel, since you mentioned him, is a true understudy, performing Big Bird with Carroll's blessing and tutelage, and Carroll has first right of refusal. Matt simply never puts on the suit...
It's Kynan, Bear.
And I've been checking out all the posts on this topic -- our argument all along has been there should be no such thing as a "temporary" Muppet performer. One Muppet, One Voice means one performer per character, rain hail or shine. Consistent performers = consistent...
I'm astonished. This is Muppet Central, "Uniting Muppet Fans Around The World," and all I'm seeing here is united apathy. Save the Muppets is literally trying to save the Muppets. We're trying to stop Disney turning them into mass-produced franchised dolls, touring schools and shopping malls in...
That may be technically true, but doesn't that make you wonder why Yerrid and Massey are currently doing all the Statler and Waldorf appearances?
Having Official Puppeteers is small consolation if they're not doing any Official Puppeteering.
Yeah, you're right. In fact, I hope MHC gets Drew Massey and Victor Yerrid to go back and loop over all of Dave and Steve's Statler and Waldorf performances. That'd be AWESOME. Because let's face it, you know who's really bad at doing Muppets? Dave Goelz and Steve Whitmire, that's who. I can't...
Management isn't "exploring" anything except how lousy their product has to be before people begin complaining. And apparently, if you people are anything to go by, the answer is incredibly lousy.
This goes to show we can't trust Muppets Holding Company.
MHC's Martin Baker told Jim Hill that the "core group of performers will still get the high profile jobs. The TV shows, the movie work. This new group of performers ... will only get the secondary jobs. When Kermit needs to appear at...
Kevin's presence at the auditions isn't necessarily an endorsement. He may just be making the best of a bad thing. If Disney's plan was going ahead no matter what, then anyone in Kevin's position would want to at least ensure top quality.
And yes, the dangers of small-handed puppeteers weigh...
I replied to this message over in the Save The Muppets thread. I don't know if I'm supposed to do this, but since this message was posted in both threads, I'll reply here as well -- KB
Hey Mickey Muppet. If you've got any questions about the campaign, you should feel free to address me...
Hey Mickey Muppet. If you've got any questions about the campaign, you should feel free to address me personally. I'm really sorry you've been bothered by the two threads this discussion has come up in. I'm really not trying to discourage anybody from auditioning, I'm just encouraging everybody...
Craig Crane asked
None of us can speak for them, obviously, but at an educated guess, I think Craig's right -- I don't think the Muppeteers would want to see their characters farmed out. But I also don't think they'd necessarily speak out.
These are guys with more invested in the characters...
And so we come to the central problem: THIS JOB IS TOO HARD!
"Disney's too big to fight."
"We're too small to make a difference."
"I'm too tired to care."
Guys, we know this is a huge thing to take on, but we went ahead and took it on anyway. Why? Because we care. The Muppets mean a huge...
That's like saying, the puppets all have to have laser-guided missiles, because Disney is planning an event where the puppets all have laser-guided missiles.
Of course pre-recording is possible, it just means getting Disney to adjust their plans is all.
It's a better answer for the characters, and that's what One Voice, One Muppet is all about.
In this case, the characters would all be programmed by their performers. Using an alternate puppeteer takes the key performer out of the performance altogether!
Never fear, Mrs P, there are others like out there. We've been talking about it a lot at Tough Pigs, in this thread:
http://forums.delphiforums.com/toughpigs/messages?msg=8333.1
...and I've received a lot of e-mail feedback via www.SaveTheMuppets.com.
People's natural excitement about...
Voiceroy: In your message you said you'd "performed Kermit for local events." Under the circumstances, I think mine was a legitimate question, and not worthy of a "for crying out loud". I appreciate you clarifying.
But to clarify your clarification: Anybody performing with a Kermit puppet at...
Was Once Ernie, you're missing the point, and I think you're doing it deliberately. My premise isn't that Muppet "continuity" is going to get confused. My point is that the Muppet characters themselves are going to be hopelessly diluted.
I'm not talking about major plot points, like whether...
It bothers me that passing yourself off as Kermit could count as positive prior experience for this job.
