Yes, Heralde, the YouTube clip you linked to is Artie Esposito.
The "new" Kermit is constantly twitching, moving and stuttering, even when he has nothing to say. He has no comic timing, and -- worst of all -- apparently if you lean your face close enough, he'll kiss you on the mouth without a...
Sesame Workshop owns Ernie and they're free to cast their own performers.
Disney owns the "classic" Muppet characters, along with Bear in the Big Blue House and several others.
So what Disney does with Kermit doesn't effect what happens to Ernie.
Nobody's bashing Artie. And criticizing his Kermit doesn't mean we're not excited or happy for him. Being happy for him as a person and being happy with his performance are two very different things.
By your logic, Disney could pick any random one of us to play a major Muppet, and everyone else...
Lylle Breier has responded to my email (and to emails from other fans) with the following statement:
We also absolutely appreciate constructive criticism, which brings me to your comments about Kermit. I can assure you that if we ever decide to substitute a performer, we do not do so lightly...
Hi Amy!
Believe me, I'm happy that Disney is finally giving the Muppets a big push -- and by all accounts, the people involved, from Dick Cook down through Lylle Breier and the rest of the Muppets Studios staff, are all big fans just like you (and me).
But with respect, I have to disagree...
Kermit is only "out there" to get the public interested in watching those films and TV shows. And a substandard Kermit is going to attract a lot less people.
I understand why some of us fans think films and TV shows are more important. But if the Muppets aren't giving 100% every time they...
Rendal, that precedent only shows that people will notice (and complain) when a character is suddenly recast with a very different performer.
Sesame Workshop has since acknowledged that Steve is the one true Ernie. One of the producers, Carol-Lynn Parente, even told a journalist, "One...
Jimmy Dean, what you're saying is, you asked the same question three times, and three times you were told "You'll have to leave a message." And then you got hung up on?
That's not Disney "hiding something," that's you harassing a receptionist who obviously can't comment.
Contacting the Disney...
Artie is also a current member of both Muppet Central and Tough Pigs, and has visited both forums in the past few days. I'm sure if he was able to comment, he would have done so by now.
I don't want to hijack Ryan's thread, but I haven't signed the petition, not because I don't care about Steve, but because the reasons behind the recast don't change my feelings about it.
D.W., you're saying that if we knew why Kermit was different, then we could make a more informed judgment...
Hey, D.W. I did see your posts on "Kismet" and the vast Muppet Show Comic Book conspiracy theory -- very entertaining! I'm sure I'm not the only one who appreciates you lightening the tone and keeping things optimistic.
Sadly, I think it's pretty unlikely that this is part of some big stunt. I...
Thanks, Ryan, for your link and well done on an excellent letter. Like you, I don't think the circumstances behind the change are any of my concern. All we can do is send our best wishes to Steve and hope for a positive outcome.
But commenting on performances by the Muppets, or by characters...
Kermit lip-synched to a pre-recorded song at D23 and was otherwise silent. There was no sign of Steve Whitmire.
John Kennedy did play Kermit once for a Disney Cruise Lines show. But the performer playing Kermit on America's Got Talent and the VMAs wasn't Steve and wasn't John Kennedy. So I...

Quite a few people here are worried that complaining will make Disney stop producing new Muppet stuff. Luckily for us, I don't think it works that way. Disney paid a lot of money for the Muppets, and the best way to make that money back is to produce...
Hey, that's great news, thanks.
I just put my letter up as an example, and because I wanted to let as many people as possible know how I feel. But I think it's better if everybody tells Disney how you feel in their own words. We all have our own voices -- why would we want to imitate someone...
An Open Letter to Disney
Hi Muppet Central,
I see many of you have questions and worries about what has happened to Kermit (and what has happened to Steve.)
I share your concerns, and I've written an open letter to the people at Disney and the Muppets Studios to let them know how I feel...
The characters and the fans deserve the real performers, but Disney's current plan, as reported by Jim Hill (and confirmed elsewhere), is to have their theme park cast members perform both voice and puppetry. So the good news is, Disney wants in-person performances by established Muppet...
Album Cast List
I was as curious as you guys, so I'm happy to share this confirmed cast list:

Great pictures, Murray. In answer to your question, the fourth puppeteer was longtime Henson performer Michelan Sisti.
