I don't think Henson should set out to 'top' the original film, it will just disappoint. Now, if they can equal the film in terms of vision, magic, and pacing, then I'll be satisfied. What I'll be paying attention to is, well, attention to detail, the subtle things that brought the first film to...
Good news all around. So, let's see, I'll be 35 when it premieres, I guess I can handle that ;)
Interesting that the film is about to move into production with no director announced. I'm imagining all of the props and puppets sitting in the production rooms, waiting to be brought to life...
IMDB has Power of the Dark Crystal listed for a 2011 release. Now, I know IMDB isn't always accurate, but 2011 is quite far away. Here's hoping it's a mistake.
I found it through IMDB's POTDC page. Some one posted a link to the article. It's just a shame that Henson isn't on the ball enough to break this kind of news on their own.
At any rate, I'm happy to be in a positive place in regards to this sequel once again.
I've been corresponding with the writer of the article and it appears that Jim Henson's Creature Shop had visited Australia this past July. It appears that everything is rolling on track and Power of the Dark Crystal will still be released next year, under a new director.
I heartily agree Luke. It's like they've sold their legacy down the river. Why couldn't Brian Henson direct this picture? What happened with Genndy? Now, it appears that, based on the article that Jim Henson's Creature Shop won't be visiting the Australian studios until July? Is this a mistake...

Dabauckham can you tell us if Henson mentioned if the sequel will be out in 2009? I some how think that they will unveil a teaser trailer around Christmas, it would make good sense. Here's hoping.
They've been working on this film for nearly 4 years, which is almost the same amount of time they've worked on the first film. I believe there's been enough time devoted to the planning and execution of the film to make me believe at least, there's a great film in the wings. Here's hoping we'll...
If there were a 'Jim' in the Jim Henson Co, then I'd have faith. That man would have realized way sooner then now that we, the fans are his most important asset. It is clear that not only is Jim Henson dead, but so is his sense of loyalty, which, unfortunately has not passed on to his children...
The problem is, the last word from Henson co. was that everything was on track for a 2009 release. We've had no other word from them yet about the state of everything. I would definitely be supportive of them not rushing this film, but it's been almost 4 years since the announcement of the film...
well, wikipedia states that the film may be at a financial stand still, and no one has responded to this posting. either everyone agrees or everyone disagrees. lol.
It's August 1st, no news, no trickles, no photos, no status reports, only that interview with Brian Froud citing how those behind the film are figuring out a date to actually start production.
Maybe this is just me, but unless production is already underway, I don't know if this film will...
