If they were worried about bad publicity then, just think of how much the worry would be doubled, maybe even tripled today, with paparazzi, tabloids, TMZ, all those dipsticks... it'd be ALL OVER the news, the papers, the magazines, etc: "David from Sesame Street Caught Doing Something Bad...
Well, like Selena Gomez not knowing who the Muppets were, when I saw the movie, I didn't know who Rico Rodriguez was, so my reaction was pretty the same as Kermit's.
You have to give them credit though, that was kind of a gutsy move to keep him on as long as they did, in spite knowing how unstable he was; they certainly didn't want any bad publicity circling around "David" since the kids liked him so well.
All I know about the whole situation was that is was apparently Debbie Spinney's idea to bring Maria and Luis together romantically, and I think CTW felt it was a way of showing that sometimes, we don't marry the first person we hook up with; at the same time, I think the problems with Northern...
Ah, Beakie's nabbed herself a new beau, eh? Why do I get the feeling he's a tall, balding, somewhat puffy, aristocratic type who has an appreciation for the finer things in life? ;)
That's basically how they ended up on television: Hanna-Barbera commissioned them to build the characters and sets for the Banana Splits, and NBC was so impressed with how they put all this stuff together, they asked them to make their own show for them, hence H.R. Pufnstuf.

And I think most people are wanting it to end so badly, it's like every few years or so, rumors keep surfacing that, "Oh, it's FINALLY ended in the next two years".
It seems like a lot of people want Family Guy to end too.
That's the ever-persistent, yet rarely welcomed fact of life known as "progress".
They're probably looking for ways to cut costs making the show. Personally, this doesn't effect me even the least, I stopped watching new episodes maybe 2004 or 2005... I've tried giving new episodes a chance...
AND, is she going to be a new addition to the cast, or is she just a one-shot character? Because between all the background characters promoted to supporting fixtures (Fern, George, some of D.W.'s classmates, Pal and Kate), and new characters over the years (the Molinas, Binky's new little...
