The last UK VHS release I am aware of was about 12 months ago, and apart from the Fozzie/Ma Bear part, it's uncut. Unless something has changed radically since then, the UK rights are still cleared.
Alex
Rights vary from territory to territory. Just because a piece of music can be cleared for home video use in one country doesn't automatically mean it's cleared for anywhere else. In this case, the music is clearable for the UK but not the US.
TV rights are different to home video rights...
Thanks! Those machines are getting harder to find in working order, aren't they? I had one in storage for years, never needed to use it, and when I finally dug it out a few months back to play a tape, I discovered it had died :-(
No, didn't tape it. I thought it was on C4 though?
The real trick at the moment seems to be getting hold of the original opening titles for season 1. I've got all of them in video form, but I'm missing the soundtracks to a few :-(
I've got a large number of season 2/3 episodes which end with a shot of a hatless blue Zoot in the pit blowing his sax, watched by Crazy Harry. This appears to have been lifted from the season 1 opening titles. I don't know whether this was an 'official' ending shot, as the eps I have all...

I can confirm that all the UK releases I know of (Palace, Buena Vista and two Columbia Tristars) are uncut aside from the Fozzie/Ma Bear scene (does anyone know why this was cut?); also the German-language Columbia Tristar release from a couple of years ago (although the packaging states...
I don't know for certain, but the run time is short by several minutes, and I suspect what's been removed is 'When Love Is Gone', which was added for the original home video release. In other words, this is the theatrical print that's been used.
Hey Jeffrey,
Glad you like the grabs! The story of where my episodes came from is long and complex, and does have something to do with DVDs :-) If you're interested in doing a trade, please feel free to drop me a line!
Yes, that's the one! I've got the video element, but no audio (long story!). My trade list is rather lengthy, so I'd rather not post it here - if you'd like to send me an email, I'll mail it to you privately :-)
Thanks!
Well, if you get it done commercially it probably won't be cheap, plus any respectable facilities house is likely to refuse to handle something for which you don't own the copyright.
However, I (or rather, my brother) have the kit to do a conversion, so it's effectively free :-) Drop me an...
G'day all,
Following a thread a couple of weeks ago, I've had a number of enquiries about this special. So, in the interests of "goodwill to men, women, pigs, chickens and Dizzy Gillespie", if anybody is looking for a copy of this hard-to-find show, please feel free to contact me!
