Your Thoughts: Sesame Street Season 44

Really? I thought that at least some of his performances in recent years weren't known about in advance. I don't remember hearing about him performing in seasons 42 or 43 in advance. After some of his season 43 appearances aired I heard that he had been on the set via one of the other performers...

The Muppets Character Encyclopedia coming Feb. 7 2014

I just realised: This book is coming out on February 7, and that's a friday this year. Is it normal for books to come out on Friday's? I was thinking they were released earlier in the week.

    Muppets Tonight what went wrong?

I don't think any of the recurring segments were used much (not sure whether having only 22 episodes is a good enough excuse). The best recurring segments weren't used enough and, thankfully, the worst ones weren't used too much. I wonder if the show would have succeeded if it was only new...

Your Thoughts: "Jim Henson: The Biography" by Brian Jay Jones

I thought it was said in that chapter that CBS was interested in airing it during the 7PM hour, but then the FCC made rules that each individual station air local or syndicated programming during that hour, and apparently CBS didn't want to air the show at a later hour.

Your Thoughts: Sesame Street Season 44

The Count has often appeared in street scenes over the years as well as inserts. And Cookie Monster is not just limited to inserts. Back in the 1970s it was common for Frank Oz to perform in street scenes, and ever since David Rudman took on the role of Cookie Monster he's been in a lot of...

    Most Annoying TV Series Ever?

Right now, off-hand, when it comes to TV shows I've actually watched, the only shows I can think of are animated (I don't think I've actually posted in that other thread): Spongebob Squarepants (I liked it at first, then got bored within a few episodes) and Ed, Edd 'n Eddy (can't remember if I...

    Is Floyd a leftie?

Floyd and Janice play their instruments left handed because their performers use their right hands to perform the bodies. But I think there's merchandise and photos that show them right-handed... For example the Floyd action figure is sculpted to play the bass right-handed. Though I was...

The Jim Henson Hour Appreciation Thread

Something has just occurred to me regarding the fact that the pilot was broadcast later yet was a much stronger episode than the first two broadcast ones. I had been wondering why they had that one broadcast later, but then I was reading in Jim Henson: The Biography that Henson did some...

    Flanderized Muppets?

I wonder if The Amazing Mumford has been "flanderized". In his earliest sketches, he seems to be good at making magic the way it's intended, with his only trouble being a sketch where he tries to make a rabbit come out of his hat (accidentally turning Grover into a rabbit without realizing). But...

The Muppets Character Encyclopedia coming Feb. 7 2014

I wonder how some characters might be listed. Like there's one monster who's been referred to by a number of different names, including Pokey. But I recently read on Muppet Wiki that that puppet has a tag labeled "Anthony", a name that I don't think has been used. And I wonder if...

Your Thoughts: "Jim Henson: The Biography" by Brian Jay Jones

I wonder why puppeteers would need dressing rooms. It's not like the home audience is going to see how they are dressed. Well, unless they were performing full-body characters. I would think maybe there'd be a special room for the performers to relax if needed, but a dressing room would be just...

Today I've had "In My Life" (Judy Collins' version) and "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted" in my head.

Your Thoughts: "Jim Henson: The Biography" by Brian Jay Jones

It's interesting when I read about Jon Stone not liking Caroll Spinney. In Spinney's autobiography, it was written like Spinney could never figure out why he didn't like him. But then in Street Gang, it says that Stone thought Spinney was unprofessional, preferring to not read his scripts until...

You Ever Notice...and What's the Deal...

When Warner Bros. sold the rights to its black and white shorts in 1955, the classic WB openings and closings had to be replaced until Warner got the rights back (and they also had to remove instances where the logo appears in the cartoons itself, the only ones I know of being in Porky in...

    The "You know what?" thread

There have been times on Sesame Street where somebody says that asking questions is a good way to find out things, but that's not always true. Sometimes, you could ask, and still not know (how many questions asked in the questions about anything thread have been unanswered?). Maybe you ask...

    Questions about anything

I might not get an answer here, but it's been on my mind for years... What is the origin of the phrase "up your butt and around the corner"? When I was a kid we said it all the time (I first remember hearing the phrase in sixth grade), I still use that phrase constantly (and not just to ask...

A breakdown of the Jim Henson Company timeline

I wonder if there should be a similar "all purpose" thread in the General Discussions forum, for non-Henson franchises and shows. I know that in the Sesame Street thread the eras are categorized by "Gold", "Silver", "ruby", "copper", and "what comes after copper"... But for some properties...

I didn't realize there was a PVC set until I saw it pointed out on the Tough Pigs forum (it was mentioned in a Muppet Mindset article about Muppets Most Wanted merchandise, but I somehow missed that part).

    Muppets Toyota Superbowl Advertisement

Do you seriously not know what the superbowl is, or were you joking? Are you from a country other than America? The Superbowl is the football finale championship game of the year, perhaps the biggest football event all year. In fact people make as big a deal out of the commercials that air...
