a bump for this thread is LONG overdue, as it seems we haven't appreciated Telly in over 6 years...so a few thoughts on Telly, who is so often underrated, on screen and off.
1) Telly has the potential to bring fans of all ages together, as he is old enough to be a solidly classic character, but...
"would you like something to drink? perhaps some ham?"
(said, of course in an overly polite and exaggerated tone: "haaaahm"?) that's how i remember the prince being greeted in the dancing princesses episode. the quote may be off, but my family has been saying that every time we've had ham since...
all of this raises the issue about the different types of projects the workshop does. the "learn along with sesame street" series that the military stuff is part of is quite different from the content of the show itself. more direct and overtly message-driven. it's taken me a while to get...
you presume these groups are mutually exclusive *munch munch* "Old School packaging delicious, but Follow That Bird box with Elmo on cover give me heartburn. ohhhhh" :insatiable:
definitely. both of thse things are seen in other sesame street sketches, too. first, bert as princess isn't about being in drag--it's about bert always getting suckered into playing the roles he doesn't want to play. this always happens to him--they make him the tree in the christmas pageant...
to take my last point a step further, the other cool result of the interaction between bob & the muppets is a model for the viewer of the creative relationship of an individual to an existing text: an existing story *invites* creativity rather than stifling it. the texts here are the story book...
fun idea for a thread! here's what i like about this sketch: the story's length is in part due to repetition, which has both educational and comedic value here, which is brilliant. sometimes bob reads a line from the story, and then a muppet says it again acting it out; other times the...
this thread isn't off topic--it was always a thread about a sesame workshop decision and worry over the workshop's future. there are many ways this can be addressed, from discussing past sw decisions and their consequences to discussing things we might do to help. this would be a pretty boring...
of course. and they shouldn't be focused on collectors and older fans. their goal is to produce something that helps kids. they have found ways through their podcast and their website to integrate a lot of older material in a way that does that. and gets parents excited to watch with their...
i agree with many of your points, but i have to say the shows with elmo's and rosita's dads were done very well. no mention of war, fighting, military, sacrifice, freedom, duty, or even doing something for your country. they basically treat the families as victims of something beyond their...
oh, that's so much more user friendly than the last one! and it looks more welcoming and happy. & more like sw's website... but i still wish they sold soundtrack cds in their online store!
ok, so apparently nobody has done anything stupid in nearly a month, so i may as well bump the thread with my latest feat. i LOVE food :insatiable: but i have the cooking skills of you know who :hungry:. two weeks ago i managed to set my microwave on fire with a bag of popcorn, and despite my...
this is such a great thread! but it's hard to think of them unless i'm listening to non-muppet songs, which is less often than i listen to my mup3s...:D
how about a song about learning to swim at a swimming pool, called I Don't Fear the Deep End, sung by some blue oysters.
March 20 is a big day! first, it's supposedly Big Bird's birthday (though I don't know where they come up with birthdays of muppets...), and he is, of course, turning 6...again...
but it's also Fred Rogers's birthday, and he would have been 81. so happy birthday, Mister Rogers, we miss you! i...
i think i know the one you mean. i've seen it pop up a couple of times on ebay, for around $20. it's cute--i thought about buying one myself. i've seen it maybe 2 or 3 times in the past year. there isn't one on there now, but i'm sure it'll pop up again--it seems to be rare but not impossible...
is there any other info on this? i haven't seen a single "news" report that's done anything but parrot back the statistic and make some joke about it. it would be nice if someone in the press actually ASKED sw what the cutbacks mean in terms of production and what the workshop's priorities are...
amen to that. some of the parodies are funny, but the cnn report wasn't--it was making the story about the comedians, rather than about the organization, how it gets funded, and how the layoffs will affect its services. it's closer to youtube poop than to reporting if all you do is google...
