Bacon...
I've been mulling this over. Look at The Office...Arrested Development....those are all shows that are aimed at grown-ups, and if done with puppets you'd still have shows aimed at grownups. Sure they have sexual themes, but the last I checked they had few profanities (Well except for that one...
And LOADS of proctology jokes. You need those. And the whole "I feel like someone unseen force is controlling me" jokes..those are good too--probably 5 per episode. And you can't forget to throw in the ole "do you know where that hand has been" jokes either... 12 per show at least.
right...
The best thing you can do for your audience is to play to the top of their intelligence...that being said, my puppet shows don't do that because I prefer to play to the lowest of my own intelligence.
don't follow my lead.
I think the messed up logic is the "oh holy poop, we did WHAT to goodwill, consignment stores, ebay, etc? huh. ok screw the kids! industry wins!"
or something along those lines.
It went pretty well. I got the feeling that everyone under the sun wanted a hand puppet, but didn't want to shell out $350 for a schmancy one (which I know is probably *still* lower than what everyone else here charges...baby steps, guys, baby steps)
I think I ended up selling 15 finger puppets...
Thanks guys! (I always get so giddy with praise!)
No, I sadly won't be there for the Sesame lecture. I know someone from Chicago that's going, but it's a bit too cost-prohibitive living out west. Someday I'll get back to the east coast!
I made a lot of new puppets at comicon (what else is there to do at a table for 4 days?)
here's one.

Those of you who dont have facebook should just succumb to the power that is the networking site of tomorrow. Or really the networking site of 2 years ago.
But to be fair to Mike, we can't see the photos unless we're all friends with you, so a flickr account would be awesome
Used toys will be exempt, however unused toys will not be. I'm not sure if you can consider the 1980 Chewbacca in its package on your shelf used. QUICK! Take it out & play with it before you sell it! (Or at least play with the box)
http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml09/09086.html there's...
I personally don't think it's intentionally vague. It was passed in August, very quickly with a vast majority in both the house & the senate (in both combined, there were only 3 who opposed). My feeling is that it was done quickly without much thought as to what would happen to the smaller...
There have been a lot of revisions to this law. Most people speaking on the CPSIA's behalf are giving conflicting information. Its a debacle.
Toys made from only natural materials (untreated wood, bee'swax, un-dyed wool, gemstones) are exempt.
The resale of toys in places like goodwill...
I haven't read the whole thread yet..honestly my whole gut just gets bad-news-butterflies anytime the topic is raised. I have some good info & thoughts & resources & will share them all soon...just need to walk away for the moment.
I'm just not saying who it is until after they're safely delivered to the recipients.
cold showers, gentlemen, cold showers. (Because I know you're all so hot for morning talk shows--which is clearly on your mind.)
I had *such* a great time at Midwest last summer. I wish I could do it again this summer, but I'm committed to helping the Puppetry Store at National. But I'm convinced you'll have just an amazing time.
you never cease to amaze me, Jarrod.
as far as the naming, granted, I haven't used up all names yet--not even close, but I think that's what leads me to naming puppets "Macaroni Stops"...or really just asking my 5-year-old to name things. His monkey is named Monkey Monkey Go Go Pork N Beans...
