Thanks guys. The mirror trick is probably exactly what happened with the photograph. Good tip! I was using a mirror for the hair, but not for the eyes!
I always do the eyes last...and I always take a lot of time. I pinned things in place (as best as you can pin glass eyes..) did the tape, etc...
Thanks guys....The iris is actually the same size. I saw that it looks like that as well, but when the eyes are off and in my hand they're the same. I wonder if its the glare that's doing that.
As far as the heat-gun/hair dryer....I've been using a heat gun a lot on this project and have come...
I glued the eyes to the face....its a half spherical hollow glass eye. I backed it with polyfoam to give it something to grip & glued it to her face with hot glue.

What's the best way to fix horrible focus on a puppet that's not going to destroy the puppet's face? stitching? more glue?
*sigh*
I'm extremely frustrated with myself. I didn't notice the bad focus until I'd packed away the puppet (getting it out is going to be a pain) & looked at the photos...
Our puppet theater has an amazingly extensive library that has hundreds of books...probably about 1/3 are on marionettes, so I've been looking at those for awhile. Joints are the things I'm wondering how I'll do...
Next week...
My son is back in school from Spring Break and I'm not teaching because my kids are on Spring Break... I will make a Marionette...at least the body!
Hold me to it, muppetcentral. That's your new job.
I was a character at Disneyworld in college...oh...a while ago.... I dont know about the mutations, but a few things that disney's costumers did was to take advantage of things like Winnie The Pooh's nose. They made it out of a super (opposite of dense--its late) foam that was dyed black. I...
carve it out of styrofoam (like insulation styro) & then cover it in papier mache, seal it with some gesso & paint it?
the theater where I work makes all of their puppets & props this way.
You can also usually find fake veggies & fruit at local craft stores.
