Mine is January 20, but my wife's is August 18th. So this will come just in time for me to be happy and get a present for myself for my wife's birthday!
Finally FINALLY saw it last night. We've been away in England (where I did see Louise Gold onstage in Mary Poppins), and I was so frustrated not to see the film until a week late. I'm a HUGE Superman fan, and I've been waiting for this movie for a while.
I was so majorly impressed...
I had a weird one the other night. I dreamed that I was looking up that other Sesame Street Christmas special from the 70s on the Wikipedia. I know, a dream about reasearch . . . Great. Anyway, when I looked it up, it was very different from what I expected. All of the Muppet characters...
Almost nobody but me seems to remember "Gilligan's Planet." The castaways from GI get onto a rocket ship and get stranded AGAIN in outer space!
Also, I heard a couple of years ago that there was a planned Spaceballs animated series. Unless they're still planning to get this off the ground...
I only just found this thread, but I would buy a Sesame nostaligia set (more than one, actually), no matter what the format. Maybe there could be some kind of compromise, like skit compilations for the most part, with certain "landmark" episodes thrown in as bonus features in their entirety...
The cowboys definitely were a highlight of the show. I love that little guy--I mean, he wasn't ready for the big time, but he was so sweet. I think he needs a little more experience, but I'm glad that they brought him back for the finale.
:)
Well, somebody has to bump this thread to the top again. So, the finale... We had been rooting for Chris, Elliot, and Paris throughout, but I gotta say I was really happy with the result last night. Of the two finalists, we definitely thought Taylor should win.
As for the show itself--wow...
Consider, though, that the creative influence of Pixar at Disney is rumored to be much stronger since the acquisition. I'm optimistic that this will affect the Muppets in a positive way.
Greedy, because I liked anything about food. But really, I think my favorite favorite is Papa Smurf. He and Gandalf and Dumbledore should get together for a wizard conference.
I was in eighth grade, and it caught me completely off-guard. I've loved and admired Jim's work since birth. The world is truly a better place because of the laughter, kindness, warmth, wackiness, and heart in his work. I truly believe that what Jim Henson did for the world will reverberate...
Neat! I'm going to do my best to go to this. I wanted to go out to the East Coast at some point this summer anyway to see friends and family--what could be better than adding some of my Muppet friends to the visit list as well?
I agree that there should have been more time, and I would have liked to hear his entire speech--after all, that only seems fair for a lifetime of achievement. Still, seeing everyone stand up to applaud such a talented man was worth it.
Oh, maybe I'm not in the book anyway. That's cool by me, though. At some point I hope to publish an anthology of my own--I've got about 120 poems around here somewhere...
:)
