You can hook up Big Bird to Cookie Monster and Oscar and all three interact with each other as Big Bird tells the story. Cookie's eyes swirl and Oscar pops up and down in his can.
Sesame Street 1969 - 1970
Carroll Spinney as Big Bird / orange Oscar
Frank Oz as Bert, Monster (aka Cookie Monster), Beautiful Day Monster, and brown Grover (known as "Fuzzy-Face"
Jim Henson as Kermit the Frog and Ernie
For Big Bird - Carroll Spinney, the puppeteer (or Matt Vogel, his understudy, who performs when Carroll is absent) raises his right arm above his head to control Big Bird's beak. The puppeteer then shoves his left hand into Big Bird's left wing. Big Bird's right wing is kept alive by a thin...
Here's my educated guess:
The Around the Corner set was probably dismantled and put in storage either in or near Kaufman-Astoria Studios.
The area past Big Bird's nest, where the Furry Arms Hotel, Celina's Dance Studio, and Finder's Keeper's sets were is widely known to be an open stage...
Really? Zoe? You see a lot of Zoe?
I thought the ratio for Elmo to Zoe stuff was like, 2 to 1. Nowadays, if I see any Zoe stuff at Toys R Us, it's only Zoe: My First Purse or Zoe on the occasional children's educational Fisher-Price toy. And maybe the occasional Zoe plush at Hallmark's or...
Hey Timmy:
That's outstanding. Hey, I've probably seen your work, as I've been to Sesame Place recently.
Two questions:
1) How do you see out of the costume?
2) I noticed the neck is a little longer than the regular Bird puppet. How heavy is it?
Whenever you see a group shot of the SS Muppets nowadays, it's:
Big Bird, Oscar, Ernie, Bert, Cookie, Grover, Zoe, and Elmo
(surprisingly, Telly, Rosita, and Baby Bear are never in the core group shots whenever you see any marketing products)
In the 70's, it used to be:
Big Bird...
If they're gonna keep the segments format
street scene
Ernie/Bert sketch
Global Grover
Letter of the Day with Cookie and Prairie
Elmo's World
they should introdcue another segment called:
"Classics" where they show classic clips of various sorts.
I like SESAME STREET: 20 YEARS AND COUNTING with Bill Cosby the best.
What about SESAME STREET UNPAVED from 1999? That's kinda like a 30th anniversary show....
What I don't like is how NONE of the anniversary specials ever acknowledged Matt Robinson's Gordon until SESAME STREET UNPAVED...
Isn't it interesting how more Sesame Muppeteers are involved with projects outside the show these days?
I guess with Sesame's reduced production schedule (26 episodes), the Muppeteers have to find ways to keep themselves busy during the downtime.
For instance:
David Rudman, Alice...
Talking about 1969 live action clips that got shown way through the show's run:
I saw 1969's sketch about Mrs. Wilson's vegetable garden WAAAAY into the late 1970's (when the girl who did the narration was probably either in high school or in college at that point)
and
the sad flower...
It's interesting how they kept 1969 Ernie and Bert sketches in the rotation until the late 1990's.
I remember seeing 1973 shaggy-looking Big Bird counting Grover's pull-ups as late as 1981 (you can see Drew Barrymore watching this skit during E.T. The Extra Terrestrial).
I remember seeing...
My guess is that Loretta Long is now in her late 60's.
She was probably 30 at least in 1969, putting her at 67. I would suspect she would be semi-retired by now.
Not even Bob makes regular appearances on the show.
I agree, thank God for Eric Jacobsen, for allowing Frank's characters live on.
Here's how I'd rank Eric's performances:
Grover (his best)
Miss Piggy (also great)
Fozzie Bear (good)
Bert (good but not perfect)
You know, I love Frank Oz and all, but Frank Oz's current Grover doesn't even sound like Grover anymore.
A good example is "Elmo's Potty Time" DVD. The Grover in there sounds very different, almost a strain on Frank's vocal chords from the old 1970's version.
Frank more often does new...
