Has anyone else ever wondered this?

You can always do puppetry on the side though. I have a friend who's a professional puppeteer in upstate NY (he's done shows on TLC) but rarely works in TV so his day job is working as an engineer at a Paper Mill and he does live shows and the occasional TV thing on the side because he's...

Big Bird and the Mysterious Neck Tie

Carroll doesn't have a monitor if he is not doing a TV or film taping. Presumably, in some on-camera outdoor situations (like walking the Great Wall of China) he's not able to use the monitor as a guide for whatever reason. Carroll mentioned in his autobiography that for live appearances he...

Has anyone else ever wondered this?

Like I said, I didn't mean to sound too discouraging, but I wanted to give you an idea of what most people who work in this field have to do. I don't think professional success in puppetry is impossible for anyone, but it does take a lot of work.

Expert puppet designer and builder availible

I think - but Ravagefrackle would certainly know better than I would - most of the Muppet rods are sewn in to the arm and the "rod pocket" is part of that. They also used this fancy patented clip in the 80s for awhile I think.

    In The Beginning!

First thing is first, build a puppet! Any puppet! The Foam Book and the videos (by Grey Seal and ALP) are good places to start...I'd suggest perhaps ordering the Foam Book first, then the video if you decide you like it. Honestly, you don't necessarily need the book to get started. I have...

Has anyone else ever wondered this?

Rick Lyon has an excellent page here for aspiring television puppeteers that you really should read. What you need to know to do this is that you have to be a) very, very good and b) you will not have a full-time job, especially these days. All of the Muppet performers work on contract, and...

    Original Characters

This is such a great idea! I don't think I have any pics of my first puppet, but you can click here to see a photo of Bluie, one of the first puppets I made in the early 90s. If anyone is looking for space to post their photos, I'd suggest Yahoo Photos @ photos.yahoo.com

    How was Kermit originally developed?

I think personality-wise Kermit evolved over several years. He was originally really just a generic puppet without a specific gender or species. He started to come in to his own and develop more of personality in the late 1960s, but he was clearly always a favorite puppet of Jim's. He hosted all...

The Copyright Act & "Fair Use" Doctrine

I just thought I would post a link to a neat page I found that addresses the whole question of what is and isn't fair use - http://www.nolo.com/lawcenter/ency/article.cfm/objectID/C3E49F67-1AA3-4293-9312FE5C119B5806/catID/2EB060FE-5A4B-4D81-883B0E540CC4CB1E

    Copyright questions

Jinx is right, you shouldn't worry so much about copyright. You don't have to file anything to have copyright, it's granted to you as soon as you create something as long as you indicate it's a copyrighted work (as per Jinx's suggestion). Registering something just makes it easier to sue...

    My First Puppet!

Thanks! Not sure why, but those new links work and the others don't. Great first attempt - are you building more?

    My First Puppet!

Hi Trent! Those links you posted didn't work, but I noticed the pics are in a Yahoo Photo album. Do you have corrected links and/or your Yahoo ID name? Looks good from the pic in your profile though!

Sesame Street Kicks off 35th Season Celebration in Toronto

Thanks...I'm hoping my niece & nephew will like it, I'm mostly going for them. I barely tolerate the puppet Elmo. The costume version isn't enough to get me down to Dundas Square in the middle of winter without the kids in tow.
