    My graduation project

Wow. Just wow. Really nice. And this is a student project?! This is what I hate about Europe, they do puppetry so much better over there!!

    Monsters are fun

Bunsen's head has been discussed before but I can't remember how it was done (anyone want to take this one??) but the real trick is the fabric. You need to use antron fleece or another material made from high-pile (long) fibres to get seamless heads. There are some kinds of polar fleece I've...

The 2nd Annual BT Puppet Building Contest

Just to clarify because there was some confusion on the Bear Town forum, the T-shirt thing is something from last year. After the contest I indicated I wanted to send those who participated (last year) shirts as a thank you, but it was delayed because it took forever to get my web store up and...

The 2nd Annual BT Puppet Building Contest

Not in any practical sense, although legally if you live in a state or country that prohibits people under the age of majority from entering a contest you would be disqualified but since this is a judged contest and not a random draw thing I can't think of a place in North America where that is...

    Puppetsnstuff Puppets

That's a good idea. Is that the new Krylon paint for plastics? Have you tried it on a large plastic surface without sanding?

    Puppetsnstuff Puppets

I've had this problem too - I've seen ping pong balls cut perfectly in half and I don't know how people manage it. What about using half-dome eyes? They come in a variety of sizes and are pretty cheap; I think they cost $1.50 or so per pair if you buy them wholesale.

How to Audition for the Muppets

Unfortunately I don't think it works quite that way. :smirk:

The 2nd Annual BT Puppet Building Contest

...it's baaack! Yup, it's time for the 2nd Annual BT Community Puppet Building Contest. This grew out of discussions here in the MC Forum last year and it's hosted over at my site because, well, I got stuck organizing it. It's alot of fun with people building puppets and sharing pictures and...

    Puppetsnstuff Puppets

Yup, PaulyPuppets runs Puppetsnstuff. So maybe the styrofoam balls are just a money saver on the ebay puppets then? I imagine his margins on those aren't very good. One thing I've always wondered about those puppets is the mouths - how do they look in person? The bottom lip in all the...

    Copyright questions

I'm not sure if a pattern can be copyrighted, or if it has to be patented in the US. You can copyright a document that contains a pattern I suppose though so I'm just not sure. So, uh, yeah - go get that lawyer!

    Puppetsnstuff Puppets

I've never actually seen one of these in person, but I don't think they use styrofoam for the eyes. All of the characters on their web site (click here ) appear to be plastic.

    Copyright questions

The bad news: something that specific you probably need to get a lawyer to draft. It'll cost at least a few hundred dollars, possibly a lot more. The good news: Once it's drafted you can basically "boilerplate" it - change the specific details (name of character, length of license, etc.) and...

    Original Fraggle sketches

I know CBC has some sketches in their archives, not sure if they are of the actualy characters or just props, costumes and things like that. CBC regularly displays items from Fraggle Rock at the CBC Broadcast Centre in Toronto. They are currently running an exhibit called "Growing Up With The...

    Foam blocks?

I'm sorry if my earlier post sounded harsh and to be honest I didn't realize you were specifically referring to a benchtop belt sander which I agree is considerably less dangerous than a handheld one. I'd still recommend properly mounting any wood/foam/etc. you're working on in a vice grip or...

    Safe material for children

I think using regular fleece would be OK but I would machine sew the puppet rather than hand stitch it so there's less risk of little bits of thread coming loose. If you use plastic eyes, make sure they are large ping-pong ball like ones and secure them on very, very well. Don't use any paints...

    Foam blocks?

Uhhhh.....no offense, but holding the head between your legs while you use a belt sander is - to put it politely - a very bad idea. After having witnessed someone get part of their leg accidently sanded down to the bone I don't recommend this. If you're using drills, belt sanders, etc. secure...

Where can I get foam rubber?

As always, a quick search of the puppetry forum will turn up most of the answers you seek; people have suggested numerous online sources for fake fur in old threads. As for foam, try looking in your local Yellow Pages under "foam" or check fabric and upholstry stores.
