I don't really think you need that much stuff in a repair kit. I'm just insane. For example, I toured for years with a big show that had a couple hundred puppets and props and all they carried in their kit was:
- Basic sewing kit
- White, black, red, yellow and green paint
- Gaff tape (lots)
-...
Well, I don't work on live puppet shows hardly at all but the kit was originally put together years ago for taking to video shoots or when I used to work on projects in the U.S. The idea was basically have a portable "workshop in a box" that was packed and ready to go whenever it was needed. I...
That's a really good idea. I saw something in a professional make-up magazine once about Rick Baker's designs for Men in Black and how he does most of his make-up and puppet designs in Photoshop first.
I've have a metal case that I use as a repair/maintenance kit. It contains:
Tools
Hot Glue Gun
Hair Dryer (small)
Fuzz buster (small)
Flat Head Screwdriver
Square Head Screwdriver
Star Head Screwdriver
“Poking” Tool
Mini Screwdriver Set
Bike Repair Multi-Tool
Needle Nose Pliers / Wire Cutter...
There's a puppeteer in Ontario, Mike Harding, who uses a stage made from a large cardboard fridge box (or at least he used to). It's covered in fabric and looks great, is super light and easy to transport. I think that would be a lot easier than lugging around some made from wood or a bunch of...
I thought that too at first, but maybe it was the speed the marionette was shot at. They could have sped up or slowed down the film.
The original YouTube accounts that posted the videos were all created by the marketing company.
Hey guys,
Remember the videos of the giant marionette in Iceland on YouTube awhile back?
(I think there was an old thread, but I couldn't find it)
Well, I got a ton of emails about it via my blog, did some digging and found out how it was done (and who did it) - very little CG and a lot...
I'm not sure of the method TzTz uses (I'm sure that people would love a tutorial TzTz ;) ) but the parts are relatively cheap if you build or machine everything yourself.
Two good resources are "Figure Making Can Be Fun" by Michael Brose, which has an in depth chaper on making mechs and...
No, I had actually never seen that but thanks for the link. I've noticed Kermit looks a little odd in some of the publicity photos, especially newer ones. There are some hideous looking photos of him on merchandise here in Mexico.
I would trust Ravagefrackle on the size issue, even if MR says...
I suppose it's also possible that more than one size of poser has been used over the years. I would imagine the company has gone through quite a few over the years.
I can't speak to the size of the MR poser (I've only seen pics) but have seen screen-used Kermit puppets and posers at exhibits and they were the same size. Wasn't the whole point of the MR replica that it was made from the same patterns as the actual Kermit?
A story that a puppeteer once told me was about being at a convention Jim was attending years ago and he would see all kinds of people doing very Muppet-like puppets (not replicas, just Muppet-style) and he was always very polite, but totally disinterested in their work. He was drawn to the...
I have to agree with the folks suggesting the asking what people want is the wrong way to go about doing a show. I don't think that the whole focus group/asking-the-audience-what-it-wants thing doesn't really work, at least not before you make the show. Testing a pilot or show once it's been...
