    Swazzle

Actually, I have had a lot of problems viewing those videos too. Not always, but often. Eventually it usually works, but I have difficulty with both Explorer and Firefox on Windows XP laptop. I've tried on a Windows desktop too and the same problems seem to happen. I find that Quicktime...

    Advice, Recommendations, and Suggestions Needed

The advantage of the method you see in the Puppet 101 tutorial is that you get all the flexibility of a piece of foam but the gasket rubber pieces provide stability.

Have you read Sean's mouth plate tutorial? That would probably do the trick. http://swazzle.com/blogs/2006/03/puppet-building-tutorial-ratchet.html

    alien tentacles?

Must be different because the thinner what I use is the more it tends to coil. I don't really know the English name of what I've been using lately off hand but I will try to snap a picture tonight and post it.

    Voices for puppet shows

I think live is better because you can improv, but when I used to do live shows the voice tracks were prerecorded. I'm not particularly skilled at voices and I think part of the reason is that I spent the first four years of my career barely doing them. Doing live voices is harder, but I think...

    alien tentacles?

I'd suggest going to Home Depot and look at the various types of flexible PVC tubing they sell (usually in the electrical section, but check plumbing too). I use medical tubing sometimes, but the flexible PVC stuff will probably coil better and give you the effect you're going for. I've built...

    Puppet Patents

Over at PuppetBuilding.com this week I've been posting about various puppet patents from the database of the U.S. Trademark and Patent Office. All of the ones I'm writing about are old expired patents. The designs are really good (even some from the 19th century!) and have detailed drawings...

New FREE Puppet Manipulation Video here

Oops, sorry about your name - that was probably a spell check change I didn't catch. The link to the site seems to be correct and working fine now...I just switched to the new Blogger Beta and it's been doing weird things so maybe that was the problem?

    More puppetry tutorials online

There's a new site called Puppetry Lab for anybody who hasn't seen it already (I mention it on my blog a week or two ago and I saw it on Puppet Buzz recently). Lots of good manipulation tutorials, including some with video. They are starting to go a little beyond the basic eye focus/lip sync...

    NYC Puppet Gig

    my video on you tube

I like the idea with the puppets, the song is not really my kind of thing either. It should be flagged as inappropriate/over 18 content on YouTube.

    MST3k

Buy the DVDs or videos, most of the good stuff is available through legit channels.

    MST3k

MST3k is best! When I first discovered it in the mid-90s I used to watch episodes with a couple of other puppeteers and we'd laugh so hard we would cry.

    Questionabout Kermit's Pupils

If fraying is a problem you can try getting some Fray Check (it comes in a small bottle) from a fabric store and apply that. It dries perfectly transparent and is not nearly as messy as using glue.
