For how to make an ""up/down mouth" or a "straight drop" mouth check out the Newsy Vents blog at http://newsyvents.blogspot.com
The author, Clinton Detweiler, is a well-known Vent figure maker (he used to own Mather Studios) and does a lot of these kinds of puppets and posts photos of them if...

The annual PofA Festivals are fantastic. There will be several regional ones in the summer of 2008 and the next National Festival in the U.S. is in July 2009 in Atlanta, GA at Georgia Tech.
Later this month The Orlando Puppet Festival in Florida is happening and it's a really good festival...
I just wanted to post a quick note to say that after a two month hiatus PuppetBuilding.com is being regularly updated again. It probably won't be daily right now because I am really busy, but I do plan to post 2-3 new things each week.
Just out of curiosity NewfieFraggle, which city in Newfoundland were you doing this in? I was in St. John's and Corner Brook this summer and wondered if it was one of those cities.
I already posted this link awhile back, but in case anybody missed it the URL you can download the calculator from is http://www.puppetbuilding.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/puppetpricingcalculator.zip
The original page it was linked to from was lost with the old version of the site.
It's worth noting that the pricing calculator is not really ideal for custom, one off jobs. It's better suited to figuring out an "average" to charge if you're either mass producing the same puppet, or building fairly similar ones on an ongoing basis.
I thought this was really good. It's pretty funny and the Marvin Suggs influence is a nice little "Easter Egg" for Muppet fans. I like the ketchup bottle puppets a lot and the voiceover too. A technical note might be that the puppet's eye focus wanders all over the place while he's speaking and...
Worth noting that the next PofA Festival in 2009 and some kind of international puppetry festival (not sure...is it UNIMA?) will be taking place at The Center For Puppetry Arts and Georgia Tech too. Sadly, it looks like this new wing of the Center won't be ready until 2012.
Have you seen this page? Also, while I don't know about a DVD there was a VHS release called 'The Argon Quest' around 17 years ago...I have it put away in storage somewhere, but if memory serves I think it was a couple of episodes from the show cut together as a sort of mini-movie. If you're...
Hi all, a builder named Michelle in the UK recently finished a beautiful marionette that she made by studying human anatomy. It's very flexible and really nice work; she supplied some great photos of it and I've done a write up on PuppetBuilding.com explaining how she created it -...
It really depends on the project, but generally I wouldn't recommend using adhesive simply because once it's glued, it's glued. Sewing it on in strategic places like you mentioned is probably the best idea.
See the Ratchet tutorial for an example of how to do this.
