There was also an elderly Honker with greyish fur. Also, wasn't the green shaggy haired Honker named Homer? Anyone remember how or why or when the Honker was given a name. He seems to be the only one who had one.
No, it wasn't a bad idea. There were good intentions. We just don't see why we can't continue to do what we have been doing and then the threads can ba deleted after a few days or a week. Its not like there are that many birthdays in one day here on MC. Usually just afew.
This to me is the greatest idea as to why they do it and it makes perfect sense to me. I too have always noticed this but never thought all that much about it. I think Rowlf does it the most after he plays the piano. To me, it is simply just a "that was a lovely moment we shared. Thanks."

I have a feeling that Sesame Workshop will be a lot more cautious with their characters, etc. They are very protective of their company and I don't blame them. I love the rest of the Muppet gang and all, but I wouldn't let just anyone touch Big Bird, Oscar and the rest of the SS gang.
Congrats! I don't know anything about the Muppeteer auditions, but I have recently been in contact with Sesame Workshop casting as well regarding human casting. They are very kind there.
I like that Spinney only performs characters on Sesame Street because it makes his appearances with the other Muppets (Muppet Movie, and notably Muppet Family Christmas) more special.
