My thoughts, for what it's worth
For me, it's not necessarily that the movie will be bad (though I fear that somewhat). It's more that they could be doing something so much more original than an adaptation. They already did this on TMS 20 years ago. Although the plots of the original three...
You're right. That is probably what Tolkien intended. I actually never thought of it that way. Of course, I tend to skim over the endings of books--even classics like LOTR--so that's how I ended up with my own version...lol
You are not alone in disliking the Eowyn-Faramir romance. Eowyn...
My alternative ending
First, this post contains SPOILERS--so don't read if you haven't seen the movie or read the books (and want to be surprised).
Anyway, I always interpreted the ending of LOTR a bit differently. I've read the books three times and just saw the ROTK movie a couple weeks...
Although THIS is impossible, I'd love to get "Muppets at WDW" on DVD. It's the last Muppet special from my childhood that I don't have in my collection. Actually, any of the classic 80s Muppet specials would be great--especially given that most people have these only on VHS.
Also, the...
JediX, I completely agree. The Witches terrified me when it first came out. In particular, the scene where all the evil witches are gathered in a room and they turn the fat kid into a rat. It's been ages since I've seen it, but it still gives me goosebumps.
Fortunately, the Muppets...
I couldn't agree more. This role is made for Rizzo's smart aleck comments. I'm sure they can find a way to balance Steve's work between Rizzo and Kermit. Plus, I wouldn't think Toto would have that many lines.
The Pepe backlash is great though--he works best in very small doses.
My collection includes...
I don't really buy much Muppet stuff anymore but I saved almost everything from when I was a kid.
I have tons of Muppet books including Kermit's Garden of Verses (which is great), Cleopigtra, the Robin Hood one, the Muppets at Sea, the Muppet Show book, many old...
The Swedish Chef (especially after watching MFC), Rowlf, and Scooter. Even if their new voices weren't exactly the same, they're still great characters and always funny. Also, any of the old-school secondary characters like Lew Zealand, Beauregard, Crazy Harry, etc. Hopefully, they'll at...
The Alligator King was always a huge favorite in our house. I also enjoyed the Guy Smiley "This is Your Life" skits and "Monsterpiece Theater" with Cookie Monster quite a bit. I have MANY other faves but those are the first ones to come to mind.
Well, the commercial was for the NBA and not ESPN. So, I'm sure they'll play it occasionally during other NBA games. ABC has the broadcast rights and should start airing games on weekends soon and continue throughout the winter/early spring. Keep an eye out for it.
Sorry Wiggy, I didn't see your post while I was typing mine. I forgot that Sesame wasn't owned by Henson anymore. You're right--this indeed makes it even easier to release or rebroadcast old episodes.
Jim being dead doesn't really make it much harder to release old episodes. Brian or whoever else is in charge could make the same decision. I'd imagine the JHC would work with the Sesame folks on any sort of deal.
As mentioned before, there shouldn't be any technological problems. Old TV...
Hold on a sec...
I wouldn't classify the Disney company as a "small-time loser." They're arguably the most influential entertainment company in the world. In fact, many of the companies that bid on the Muppets are large corporations.
Also, you're being a bit harsh on the Henson family...
Luke alluded to this earlier, but the cost of leaving the building there is NOT just the property taxes. There is an opportunity cost involved too. The opportunity cost is whatever else they would do with that $20 million. For example, not selling the building may mean fewer new film/TV...
My guess is that it was never seriously discussed by Jim. He always seemed to have enough interest in his own fantsy worlds (Dark Crystal and Labyrinth) that I don't think he'd spend the time to film "someone else's" movie.
Also, didn't Dark Crystal take years to make? Certainly it took a...
