The first Kermit was horrible. I hadn't been building puppets long. The next one is a bit sloppy and small, but better than my first one. And finally, Kermit v3.0 is perfect in my opinion.
This really documents my skill level over the years. Keep building and you get better. Don't ever...
That is how many of the professionals do it: with pins. I am acquainted with a few people at Sesame Workshop and we discussed this once. just pin on the underside. The longer the pin, the better. small pins come undone and can even become lost inside the puppet.
I put florist wire in his legs. He isn't really standing. He is on a stand with his legs hanging, barely touching the platform. I made it look as if he is standing.
I needed to build a miniature version of Rufus for an upcoming performance in which I shrink him. Turns out, my daughter fell in love with it and so she now has her own Rufus. It is a cool feeling to have created a character that your child thinks of as a real, living thing! :)
The MR pattern mouthplate was correct, but the head didn't have enough of an arch to the forehead and the chin was too thin. The MR feet patterns were correct as well. I made my own body, leg, and arm patterns. I still need to perfect the collar. I don't know what material Henson used for it and...
I started with the MR pattern but ended up having to redo him and alter it quite a bit. I used a halved ping pong ball for the eyes. I painted them white and attached black paper pupils then put a clear coat over the entire eye.
Kermit v3.1.2
In this version:
-minor bug fixes
-new collar design
-added foam to give head an angle
-removed stitching from elbows for a more realistic look
-removed permanent arm rods and made them detachable.
The head isn't curved enough. Starting at the tip of the nose, make a slightly larger arch up, over, and down to the neck about .75 inch. Then starting from the bottom chin, increase the size by about .75 inch. I had the same problem. The mouth board is the correct size though.
Ladies and gentlemen, (drumroll) KERMIT THE FROG!!!
