Yeah, you're right. We talked about this before on the thread. But for those of you who don't feel like trying to find it ::raises hand::, the MC Muppet Show guides discuss how Janice was a hand-me-down puppet for Richard in the 2nd season. He was the only main Muppet performer who wasn't a...
This is what happens. A legit and long-lasting religious holiday gets commercialized to the extreme. So much that people no longer take it seriously.
I think Halloween's pretty safe, but Valentine's Day is in trouble. So many people talk about "hating" it because of the emphasis on...
Put that down on our list of things to do!
Now this is interesting...the Muppet Musique website has just posted songs and sketches from The Muppet Show Season 2. If you listen to the Vet's Hospital sketches (Don Knotts, Rich Little, Nancy Walker) you can hear the evolution of Janice's voice...
Yeah, those are the Smarties I was thinking of, Fragglemuppet! Ah, cultural differences!
Well you know, we spent SO MUCH time talking about Richard. That kind of dedication is hard to maintain all the time, we need to re-fuel, you know? lol Also, school has started, I think people are busier...
Yeah sometimes you can get caught up in the food or taking the trouble to visit relatives that you forget to be thankful for your life and the people in it.
Cool, it's like I'm celebrating Thanksgiving early!
Those are good things to be thankful for, Mrs. Pepper!
We have antipasto (the before pasta: lettuce, cheese, salami, peppers, etc.), the pasta, the turkey, anything else, then pastries. Yeah, it's nice. :)
Yeah, like I said I don't mind Halloween the way it is. It's a lot of fun.
It's just a shame the faith-related aspect was lost. I mean, Christmas manages to be both faith and secular (well it tries to be).
Cool, how are you going to do the Miss Piggy look?
We have turkey at Thanksgiving, but I've never been a fan. Thankfully (that's what the holiday's about!), we're Italian American and we also have pasta!
Well, St. Valentine's Day should be more about love in general, fer sure! :flirt:
Amazing though how America is so good at dumbing down holidays! I mean instead of honoring the dead, we dress up to get chocolate. Not that I don't enjoy Halloween the way it is now, but still!
Aw, thanks! Well to be fair, The History Channel was very helpful! But you're right about All Hallow's Eve.
Yeah I think that's what she might have meant as well, the difference between commerical and federal holidays. Good point.
Halloween came from a religious holiday called All Souls Day. It was a day to honor the dead, but was eventually dumbed down (at least in America) into dressing up in random costumes for fun.
The History Channel website explains that a little bit:
"Even later, in A.D. 1000, the church would...
Well, Halloween used to be more a religious holiday but it's obviously much more secular now. And Valentine's Day is techincally a day for a Saint , but it too is fairly commerical nowadays.
And obviously, school doesn't close on these days, so in that way they are not technically 'holidays.'
I tried giving up soda for Lent once, because I drank it WAY too much. But right around that time I got a cold and put that idea to the side. I decided to exercise and take the stairs instead of elevators! Though, for next Lent I probably should think of something to DO instead of NOT doing. :)...
I remember when I was little, I had a small virus. I was in bed watching TV and a Milk commerical came on. It looked so good, but I couldn't have any! I started moaning, it was horrible! lol
