Catholic and Anglican are actually very similar to each other. Other denominations show the differences more. But I totally understand what you mean about focusing on similarities, rather than differences. We get so nervous about differences. But then we shockingly realize how much we have in...
It is interesting how so many debates come from inside a religion, as opposed to from one religion to another.
The thing is, The Bible can be (and is) interpreted in so many different ways. Terry Jones (from Monty Python) said something interesting once, "Jesus said all these nice things...
Right, it's OUR book, so it says our point of view is the only right one. Other religion's books say their point of view is the only right one. I guess I sound like a "Hippie Christian", but I imagine everyone has gotten something right. Much like on Fraggle Rock, every species thinks they've...
Certainly! That's why I'm Catholic/Christian, because I believe that. But it is true that Protestants and Catholics have historically disagreed about faith versus works.
In the New Testament, Jesus continually critiqued the Pharisees for boasting of their faith, but not doing any good works...
Traditionally, the "faith is more important than good works" argument is Protestant, not Catholic.
But like I said, respectfully agree to disagree. I don't think it's worth debating over and over. So, no hard feelings, but I'll just go now. :)
Well like it or not (and I don't), the Marlboro man represented the image of the rugged guy that was "man enough" to smoke that brand of cigarettes. He's a very recognizable image.
Yeah I know, it's very strange. Well like I said, I'm sure it's fine otherwise.
Though, I am thinking I'm also going to try and get John Denver and the Muppets Christmas CD from barnesandnoble.com
The review sounds great! Hopefully I'll be able to purchase it. I sort of wish they'd done at least one religious song, since they did it successfully with John Denver. But, at least it sounds like the CD is worth listening to. :)
I get that's it's mainly for people who remember the older episodes. Absolutely.
What bothers me is the idea of advising parents that it's not viewable for their kids. It just sounds like the usual over-protectiveness we have nowadays. The idea that kids "can't handle" certain things. Kids...
Yeah but even that I'm having trouble buying. As I said before, I'd sooner let my kid watch this than the current show if I wanted them to learn, or be entertained. It's frustrating to me that they're going out of their way to get kids to avoid the classic stuff, as though it'll do some damage...
That was my experience as well as a slightly older kid. The theme song change was off-putting, and then in general the show became unwatchable. And I generally have no problem watching kid's shows.
From my experience now, I see kids liking Elmo, but I'm not seeing a particular interest in...
The Don Music clip from youtube does start at the beginning of the sketch (just like two seconds off).
What I like about Don Music is that even when he's freaking out, he appreciates the help Kermit or whoever gives him and always says "thank you!" in the end. :) He could easily take all the...
Well, as has been said before, some things depends on what church you go to. A lot of Catholic churches I've been to say people who aren't Christian can still be saved as long as they are good people.
Also, I do agree, Catholicism does have a hard time.
Actually, Elmo was not bad in the '80s. He was just another character. He wasn't my favorite, but he was likeable.
Anyway, there is so much else in the 84-89 years that's worth seeing! So I personally wouldn't pass on it. :)
Yeah, that's the idea. I want to have enough money to buy Christmas presents for other people (and contribute to charity). So I bought the thing I knew I'd like ahead of time.
Thanks, Skye! It's amazing how many things people are finding to put on youtube!
Oh and my copy of Sesame Street Old School arrived the other day. But I'm not going to watch it until Christmas. Think I can wait? I hope so...
