One of my favorites is "Old Friends, New Friends" from The Christmas Toy. The part Rugby sings to Mew after he's been frozen makes me cry every time. Through his and the other toys' love, they are able to bring their friends back. :)
Also "When the River Meets the Sea" from Emmet Otter...
When I have kids, I will prefer to show them the more classic material, I think it's ultimately more helpful. And I'm all for teaching kids to be open to new things. I don't like the idea of kids learning so young that if they don't like a popular character, they're out of luck. Again, kids do...
Yeah, especially when the train showed up out of nowhere at the end of the sketch! LOL
"Erase the cow?" Lol, classic! I also love "Who do you belong to?" Hehe
I was listening to Dave's interview in the podcast some more; I really found it interesting when he described the moment when he...
That's true, though that's an issue that's going on everywhere, not just on the Street. I mean you can see Christmas as the birthday of a loving Savior. Or you can see it as a more general celebration of morality. Either way, that's the right idea. But now there's too much emphasis on the...
I definitely wish the John Denver/Muppets Christmas CD was more readily available. Here we already have a perfectly good Christmas CD and it's not being exposed. And I do think this idea that the Muppets need to be "updated" is unfounded. I've seen plenty of evidence that kids today like them...
Diversity is a very difficult concept for people as a whole, though ultimately a enormously positive goal to strive for. :)
Sometimes we try so hard not to exclude anyone, that we end up getting rid of everything that's meaningful to each group. I don't see how that's helping, heh. I was...
I do think that quote is very wise. :)
Btw, I just heard the characters sing the song "Here Comes Santa Claus" in the "Elmo Saves Christmas" special. They changed the lyrics from "Santa knows we're all God's children" to "Santa knows we're all good children." ::sigh:: I'm sorry but....::sigh...
I think that's a good use of that quote, perhaps that is partially what he meant. :)
Lol, I love Guy Smiley, especially whenever he's annoyed at guests but still trying to sound excited. Like when he says, "Will you get these sheep out of the studio!" Or in another sketch he ushers an old man...
Very true!
Also about the smoking issue, kids often start smoking because they want to fit in with their peers, which indicates an insecurity within themselves. If adults focused more on building kids' self worth and not what Cookie Monster is or is not doing, things might actually improve in...
That's true and perhaps that's partially explains why our world is in such crummy shape. We are on a mission to ignore and forget everything that came before us, as is we've got it all figured out now. We will have nothing left to preserve if we keep thinking this way. Plus it's rather immature...
Exactly, a supplement! Nowadays, the show seems to have the impression that it's supposed to do everything for parents and not with them. And again, that may be because parents just don't have the support system they used to have. It's unfortunate.
Yes, and I remember hearing the...
Also, as far as kids expecting to see Elmo. Yes, they may initially be disapointed. But they often get over these things if they are encouraged to give something different a chance. Kids are very smart, but they also needs parents to guide them, and not just give into their every wish.
In...
I do agree more with the experts who have been saying 1 to 2 year olds do not benefit from watching TV the way slightly older kids do. It's a system of a much larger problem. Parents have to work more and don't have the support systems they used to, and so have less time to be with their kids...
Oh great, glad you found it, MN! Yes it probably was difficult to lose a parent so young and right when the new show was starting.
Not to insensitively change the topic (:o) but I just found this Two Headed Monster clip. Richard's monster really seems to like that cow at the end! Lol...
Hmm, that's a hard question; it changes all the time. At the moment I really enjoy "Oh Holy Night" since it requires such a powerful, heart felt performance on the part of the singer. From Josh Groban to Eric Cartman. Hehe ;)
The Nick version never showed Principal Butsavage; they just mentioned him in the graduation episode (which was about how no one could ever recall seeing him, and then Doug misses him giving a speech). He may have made some appearances on the Disney version, but I don't know that one as well.
