My, St. John's, you're a big cathedral, aren't ya? ! Lol, it's very impressive. And I love that statue outside. :)
Aw that's rough, I'm sorry. Well on the other hand, much of the sketches seen on the '80s SS was actually from the '70s. I didn't realize that until much later. :)
Lol, right the overly jaded and mean spirited stuff is gone and that's great. And I agree that the house-trained joke could be classic humor, hehe. I'm just not sold on the Santa thing in this case. Again, I can see Robin writing a letter to Santa, and Kermit helping him and maybe even believing...
Probably around Kindergarden since I didn't get to watch it as much. Though I still enjoyed watching the SS I remembered through the years on VHS or DVD. Not so much the newer stuff.
Well it's not that simple. :) I'm not dissing Santa, I like movies where his presence makes sense. I'm saying this show slightly seems to go against the grain of what we've already seen from the Muppets in the past.
I'm definitely willing to give the special a chance. But it's OK if not...
I think you're right that TV watching period doesn't help 1 year olds much. They should get more opportunity to move around and explore. But I did watch SS when I was that young, before Elmo was around and I still enjoyed it (at least that's what my parents say lol). Kids didn't start watching...
Well I was a weird kid, lol. I was very shy and not particularly more comfortable around people. Just that I had a very active imagination and got nervous around those live walk around characters. Though, I didn't mind Sesame Place, so maybe it would have been OK, lol.
It does feel like they went from one extreme to the other here, from jaded to kiddie. Hopefully some balance can be reached. And you know, even Ernie and Bert had to buy each other presents, rather than write letters to Santa, which made for a poignant story about generosity and sacrifice.
But...
Actually I think in years past they might have done it in sort of that way. Like, it makes sense for Robin to believe in Santa Claus and for Kermit to help him write a letter, not for Kermit to write his own letter.
Exactly, in MFC you felt like they were beyond the childish reasons for...
Yeah I'm just slightly concerned because these same characters who talked about the universal spirituality of Christmas in years past are now reducing it to being excited over Santa Claus. I think in the past the Muppets were adult characters with adult qualities and interests, but that kids...
Personally I grew up seeing Muppet documentaries and how the puppets worked and it never bothered me, even at a very young age. I loved learning more. But all kids are different. I would have been relieved if I saw that there was a person under a puppet or costume becaused I got scared easily...
Yes yes, we're just concerned about how the DVD will be received by today's kids (and their parents ;) ). Hopefully minds will be open. Classic SS isn't just for older fans. :)`
I do hope it has some genunie talk about the movie, and not too superficial. :)
How true! The point is I'm glad my parents exposed me to a bunch of different books and shows, even when I wasn't immediately enthusiastic, because I eventually learned to love them and enjoy them. Sometimes life is about discovery, not instant gratification. :)
Or expose them to classic Sesame Street as well as the new stuff, so they don't grow up thinking only new is good and old is bad. Believe me, it will pay off later in life. Just because your kid likes one thing now, doesn't mean they shouldn't be shown other things that could be good for them. ;)
Yeah the financial crisis is an issue too. But I'm reminded of something Uncle Jesse pointed out on Full House, "The first Christmas was in a manger, they did OK." ;)
You're right about the holiday ads, especially the Wal Mart ones, hehe. Though I love the Christmas commercials from the '80s...
