The New York Public Library actually films most Broadway (and off-Broadway) productions. So, if the Muppets ever did make it to 42nd street, there's a chance it'll get taped and you can watch it at the Library.
Let's get a little perspective here:
Late 1990's-Mid 2005's - Rowlf, Scooter, Electric Mayhem, basically every character who wasn't in the core Kermit-Gonzo-Fozzie-Piggy wasn't really recasted fully. Characters like Pepe, Johnny, Bobo, Sal, etc. were there to basically fill the void left by...
At least they're keeping the hour-long format.
They air the show as a 30-minute thing in Australia anyway, so this shouldn't be a terrible shock to anyone.
I'm pretty sure I read that videotape (which is what TMS was recorded on) can't be mastered in High Definition, so a Blu-Ray release would be out of the question.
The more times I see that bit done, the more I think it works better when Kermit wasn't as established a character as he is now. When he was more of a generic being, I feel as bad because Kermit wouldn't really eat worms like that.
When have the Muppets ever been competent? Look at GMC. Kermit and the gang trying to save Piggy? "Those clowns?" Everyone but Piggy is basically a weirdo or a screw-up and it takes Kermit's leadership for them to get together and do something.
