I'd tend to think that by the mid 80's, the main reason you didn't see much really old bits with Oscar or Big Bird wasn't so much due to how different the Muppets looked but since both characters largely were used on the street proper, there weren't as many sketches with them that had just...
...and of course Traveling Matt (traveling matte), - kind of appropriate that he's related to Gobo, eh? ;)
...then Moki could also refer to a particular Hawaiian drag queen with a deep resonant voice well known for a time in Arizona!
Dang you really came up with a pretty definitive list...i just a have a few more i would personally add...
(in no particular order)
Hoots the Owl
Roosevelt Franklin
Cantus (perhaps more Zen than anything but i'd still say his overall mentality would be a Fraggle equivalent)
Wisss...
Actually the really funny thing about Do Wop Hop was that it WASN'T a "poser Kermit" that they had jumping up at the end...it was a real Kermit puppet with legs...and one could clearly see the hole at the bottom where Jim would put his arm in!
Kinda weird to see that...but not nearly as bad...
Actually the whole vocabulary thing is another thing i loved about Kevin's orginal interpretation of Elmo that again has been totally lost. Original Elmo always was so thrilled whenever he either learned or was able to use a big word (three syllables or more) - there was an insert song where...
The Mahna Mahna especially is excellent - looks like a professional likeness that would be made available! As for the others, the style they're done in kind of reminds me of the beginning of the Loony Tunes shorts where they would start off with a head of the featured character in the...
Okay, as a segment Murray Has a Little Lamb is overall in the middle - it's entertaining, doesn't make you want to tune out, but it also doesn't rank up there as a classic. But there is one thing that i really love about these bits - the puppetry in them is extraordinary!
Of course Joey...
Just a thought here...until we get a confirmation from an official source, we're pretty much going off of speculation...but let's say Abby DOES get her own 15 minute segment. That's not to say an episode would contain BOTH 15 minutes of Abby's show AND 15 minutes of Elmo's World...it may be one...
Well after all it IS Miss Piggy...even if she's not too happy about the fact it's going on, just the fact that it is happening means that she's not going to pass up the chance to be in it...she has a reputation to uphold after all...in her mind, it's just a "burden of fame" - Being a star means...
Speaking of chickens = muppety comic gold, anyone else ever notice how often Baby Bear has run-ins with chickens? Several years back i noticed there were a few episodes where Baby Bear somehow interacts with a chicken (usually in a state of bewildered incredulousness ... "a CHICKEN?") - it got...
Well, if Elmo HAD been on original Sesame Street, he wouldn't have been a Kevin Clash character...he would have been Caroll Spinney, Frank Oz, or Jim Henson ... or if you want to stretch and include season 2 (when SS really kind of found its footing and expanded the cast of characters), Jerry...
Sorry to say, but there was never an officially liscensed puppet ever made and sold for Mahna Mahna...mainly because that one bit was mainly the big thing he was known for (yes, he was used in a few other bits...all quite classic imo, but still in the Muppet universe, still considered a...
re: "that's so magic"
Actually it _is_ a catchphrase of Abby's though perhaps catch "phrase" isn't quite the right word as she usually says a variation of the line...when she tends to see something for the first time or doesn't know how it works, she'll often say something like "It must be...
Had to get over to the library to listen to this one since it was my original idea/request to snag an interview with LB - i've had a really good feeling about her overall and after hearing an actual interview with her i feel more confident as ever as her being the head of Muppets Studios...
To clear up confusion about what people did/didn't see...
Both CBS and NBC annually cover the parade. However NBC has the "official" Macy's coverage so they can include the Macy's name in their title and get to show all the songs that the people in the parade stop and sing in front of...
Reading this thread just brought back to mind all the things that were going through my head watching this weekend's American Music Awards...
most of the people on there (nominees, performers, and presenters) were either youth stars or those that started out as youth stars, all products of...
I was very pleased with the news that DR is official now as Scooter and Janice - esp since i've said ages ago that he should be the one to do the characters (more so Scooter as i wasn't sure what he would be like voicewise as Janice)...and even though there's not _as much_ a vocal match to Hunt...
You're probably ahead of me on this, but if i was doing something like this, i would be checking with various regional puppetry theatres via lists compiled via Puppeteers of America and soliciting feedback on ways their troupes or other local artists they were aware of were doing. Also, even if...
As far as an official release of Muppets Tonight on dvd, the plan at Disney since they acquired the brand is to get all the Muppet Show episodes out first (3 of 5 seasons have been released so far), and after they're all out there, then would come Muppets Tonight - which makes sense...
