In between the left hand column of Muppetcentral, the calendar of Muppet Newsflash and the front page of Muppet Wiki (the "2008" page ---or whatever year it is at a given time--- also makes a good bookmark for dates/upcoming stuff), you should have all the Muppety goodness you can keep track of!
Someone upthread really put their finger on it...Simpsons at its worst often beats most tv comedies (animated or otherwise) four-fingered hands down. Kinda like SNL, it has its off years but still manages to come back...i don't think anyone in 1998 would have expected the show would still be on...
Just to state it for the record (since it actually hasn't been said yet on the thread), this would be under the banner of "Henson Alternative" - Henson's not-for-kids projects like Puppet Up! and Tinseltown.
I do like the idea. Who else could better send up Henson than...Henson...now that...
This "upcoming dvd" has actually been out for about 3 months. A must see for Ernie and Bert fans; very well done...esp the parts about Bert's tie and Ernie's fascination with the word "spheres"
Also check your local libraries and video rental places, even if they don't have the Muppet Show Box Sets, they may have the earlier "Best of The Muppet Show" releases, "Monster Laughs With Vincent Price" with two Muppet Show episodes or any of the 1985 Playhouse Video releases which were clip...
I'll be the first to admit i could care less about simply guessing/speculating on artwork-type stuff like which Muppet graces the cover, especially when the release is a ways down the line (though i find it pointless and boring, others do care hence the existence of the post, and i would never...
Okay, i read the review of Sid the Science Kid on Toughpigs, and one part confused me.
The reviewer based his critique on the first four episodes, mostly focusing on the debut (the chart episode). In describing the first episode, he talks about the part of the show where they do their...
Loathsome and fearful as they may be (i hear they hired some of the Muppet Monsters to join their department), you don't have to worry about Disney lawyers in anything regarding Dark Crystal.
Henson is still an independant company. Disney only bought The Classic Muppets (ie the Muppet Show...
Okay, i've read through the entire thread and have made mental notes to things i wanted to comment on though most have eventually been touched on and nearly exhausted! But i will point out my feelings on the current Disney push since it's dominated the last half of the thread:
We've seen...
Quite a few things to respond to in this thread so far...
First off a shout out to Kids on the Block - i was involved with them in my pre-teens back in the early 80's, nice to hear they're still around and doing what they are!
Early in the thread, an analogy came up to singing - being a...
I wasn't able to watch the whole thing, but i did catch some of DC's airing of Muppets Wizard of Oz, and i was pleasantly surprised to see that it wasn't just the hacked-up 89 minute version that made up ABC's original broadcast. Not only was it a point of pride that DC, notorious for airing...
It took a long time for them to try it, but eventually about seven years after Richard Hunt's all-too-early passing, Scooter finally appeared again with lines.
Recasting Muppets is not easy! Sometimes you get really lucky as in the case of Eric Jacobsen who was a total godsend in that he...
Actually, these days just about all writers, directors, company heads, etc (anyone involved in the creative or decision making process) never read fan-fiction precisely because of the all-too-real fear that they could be accused of plaigerism if they come up with a similar idea. (This is the...
(Forewarning: Long post here and i'm trying to rapidly get the various thought i've had over the last week and a half all out here, so be prepared for spelling errors and typos!)
Okay, when i first tuned in, it was more out of loyalty to JHC more than excitement, not knowing what to expect...
Hey, what would the world be like without two Snowths right? Snowths should be in pairs, anything less is so...un-snowthy!
Besides two heads are better than one! Double your pleasure, double your fun!
Wow - that is one versatile lady. I read her autobiography and it really glosses over a lot of her other work outside The Simpsons. I NEVER knew she also did Mindy on Animaniacs (a friend of mine used to imitate her all the time!)
I remember years before she would gain fame, she had a small...
(80's music is my fave)
The Genesis video was "Land of Confusion" which featured puppets from the British tv show "Spitting Image". This was one of the few times Americans got to see the great Spitting Image puppets on our screens (and the one seen by the most) There was also a tv special...
I thought of one more Henson connection that was on One Life to Live - Darlene Vogel who played the dual role of John's Earth girlfriend and one of the Delvians in Farscape's Rhapsody of Blue episode had a contract role in the late 90's as Lindsay's sister - something that took awhile to think...
Just an appendum to avoid confusion...MS was of course the voice of Emmet's ma (not Emmet) - i can be pretty bad with little typos like that after lots of double shifts with no sleep! And Desire is who i was referring to (couldn't remember the name of the actress who plays Gabi when i posted...
Sorry i don't have any more details - but Marilyn Sokol (voice of Emmett Otter and many voiceovers for Sesame Street songs in 1970's) has been on All My Children recently.
I don't watch AMC but i watch One Life to Live which comes on afterwards, so i happened to catch her name in the closing...
