On all 24 shows? I ask because the last broadcast distribution set I saw included the original openings for 15 shows but not the other 9 (Moreno, Williams, Aznavour, Horne, Duncan, Price, Twiggy, Merman, Mummenschanz).
It's not specifically the first season :-)
Episodes with "left-justified" credits are the shows as originally broadcast in the UK. They only have a single break in the middle for commercials and, as you point out, credit the guest star. All 120 shows originally aired in the UK in this...
No! :-) There are two different edits, that's all - it's not that uncommon. Exactly why the second one was prepared, and why a particular country got the edit it did, I do not know. There is no reason not to consider the 94 minute cut the 'official' one - it's quite possible that it was made...
If you're talking about TMM, then no, that's not the reason :-) The 97 minute version was probably the original edit of the film; certainly, it's the version released to UK cinemas in 1979. The US and other countries got the 94 minute version around the same time. There is no reason to...
Yes: they both show up on eBay from time to time, and I have 35mm prints of the US and German theatrical trailers for TMM.
I dunno about a transcript but isn't it playing on MC Radio?
The 'standard' release of TMM isn't "cut" as such. There are actually two different edits of the movie...
On the subject of which, all the copies of the Liberace ep I've seen, including off-air recordings and home video releases, are using part of the Season 5 opening titles. This clearly can't have been how the show was originally aired, and as the master tape appears to be in poor condition...
Nah, it's the Netherlands :-) I have some recordings from them with original openings, too. Also, a German TV station has a full set of Season 1 shows with their original openings.
However, regardless of what the broadcasters have, the only country to release the original openings on home...
Easy, he asked me! ;-)
I have a set of off-air recordings from Disney Australia's airings about four years ago. Fifteen of the shows have their original openings; the other nine don't. Coincidentally, those nine shows were released on DVD in France with their original openings intact.
"Remastered" is often salesdroid-speak for "we copied it onto a digital tape, isn't that fantastic!", which plays on the common misperception that digital is somehow better than analogue.
"Restored" is slightly more promising, as it implies that they taken the time to repair the picture and...
The guestbook was deactivated when the site had to be removed from Dreamwater hosting, as it's using a CGI script on their site. AFAIK my webhost supports CGI, so if someone would care to send me a guestbook script, I'll see about getting it working again :-)
Unlikely. It sounds as if your player doesn't support PAL discs.
As an aside, even if your player were outputting a PAL signal, a PAL-to-NTSC converter will almost certainly cost more than a new DVD player.
'anathema' is a fairly obscure curse (actually, it's the formal term for excommunication) and as a username has the advantage that it's not that common so I can use it on most sites where I have to log in. I find that most people have no idea what it means - or even that it's a word: I've had...
Does anyone know which of the two edits of the programme this release is being based on? In other words, is this just a cut-down version of the Columbia release, or are they going back to the original broadcast version?
