Bear arrives on Disney+ The beloved series has been off the air for the past 15 years. Now all four seasons are finally available for a whole new generation.
So the questions are...
- are we getting the same cuts as the US, or have Disney been able to (or bothered to) get the rights for a UK release?
- are these genuine PAL recordings, or are Disney going to take the same stupid route as Time-Life did, and just convert their NTSC copies (the...
The broadcast order varies according to where they were aired. The order the UK aired the shows is not the same as the order New York aired them, which is not the order LA aired them, and so on.
Basically, there is no 'correct' order. Typically, a new season would open with a 'big name'...
Very interesting!
Additionally, I have copies of Spike Milligan, Debbie Harry, Hal Linden, Marty Feldman and Wally Boag as left-handers (taped from their original UK broadcasts).
I'd be very interested in getting hold of the left-hander versions of all the other shows :-)
Yes, so far as I'm aware, the episodes are otherwise identical.
I don't know - I only have a few shows in both UK and non-UK versions.
Zero.
Ok, first up there is no such thing as the "US" version. There is the UK and the non-UK. All shows exist (or existed) in both versions. The...
:-)
I should have been clearer :-) What I meant was, did any other shows replace either the final shot of Zoot or the preceding shot of the orchestra with a specially-shot version? :-)
Didn't mean to put you to so much trouble - sorry!
Originally it was a totally different shot of Zoot - see the boxset review on this site for a screencap. One shot was used for Seasons 1/2, and another for 3-5.
The main issue is that there are a number of shows which *didn't* use the 'standard' shot of Zoot, and often the shot used was part...
Only one show in the season had a 'non-standard' ending - Kaye Ballard - and the original shot isn't included on the DVD.
Yes.
There are no significant differences between the two. Occasionally a different take would be used (for example, Statler and Waldorf's closing comments on the UK...
It's an interesting question.
In the case of 'Danceros', I suspect it wouldn't have been practical, since the creature is more-or-less tap-dancing to the music. Any replacement would have to follow the same rhythm.
Regarding 'clean' copies...I'm not sure what they have, but there were a...
I forgot to ask...do you know if any other shows have 'non-standard' endings? The list I put together was purely speculative on my part (apart from Ballard and Lynn, of which I have copies :-)
In that case, may I commend you on your impressive memory! :-)
I think I shall put a page up soon with as many original endings as I have...and a plea for copies of the missing ones!
Unfortunately, that's not true: a rights holder is under no obligation to licence their property if they don't want to.
And a better example from the same range is in "Remembrance of the Daleks": a Beatles song is playing in the background in a couple of scenes - the rights holder refused to...
:-) Yeah, I have a copy of that too.
Do you by any chance have - or know what - the original endings were to some of the other shows? So far as I can tell, the following shows had non-standard endings:
Harry Belafonte
Roger Miller - probably the chickens :-)
Dudley Moore -...
