    Questions about Region-Free DVD Players

It is, but your DVD drive probably isn't - it will be set to one region only.

    TMS Recording Order

:-) Well, if the original production files exist, the information should be in them.

    TMS Recording Order

Quick question - are the episode numbers for these correct? I ask because I've seen (including this one) three different orders now, and I'm wondering if there is in fact an 'official' order! Tapes dubbed from the masters back in '83 put the shows in this order: #92 Andy Williams #94...

    Good-bye DVD's

Yeah, that type of crawl will suffer badly in a conversion. They look fine in the original PAL ;-)

    Good-bye DVD's

It's getting better generally. From what I've seen, the DLP sets seem to have the best viewing angles, then LCDs and finally CRTs. However, none of them are great, and the vertical angle is usually much much worse than the horizontal, so you really need to have the screen set up at the right...

    Good-bye DVD's

Well, it's a BBC DVD release, so presumably the usual retailers will have it. http://www.gallifreyone.com/releases.php The series is also due for broadcast on the Sci-Fi channel some time later this year.

    Good-bye DVD's

Er...which DVDs are you talking about - the original series or the new one? The new series is due out in the US on Valentine's Day, and the original series releases have been coming out for years.

    Good-bye DVD's

It's not just region-coding...bear in mind that the UK discs are also PAL, not NTSC. To be honest, given the relative merits of a PAL->NTSC conversion done by your DVD player and one done professionally, you'd be better off getting the US releases anyway.

    Good-bye DVD's

It's nothing to do with the technology - all that is possible right now. It's down to distribution rights. Multi-region DVD players are common outside the US, btw ;-)

    Good-bye DVD's

I assume you mean a rear-projection set rather than a projector? Yeah, the Sonys are quite nice; I've been considering the new 50" model, but I'm not happy with the quality of the scaler, and like all rear-pro sets the viewing angle is pretty poor. The break-up is weird, though - that sounds...

    Good-bye DVD's

Assuming that one format doesn't kill off the other, we'll see multi-format players because that's what the market will demand. AFAIK some manufacturers already have fingers in both pies. The basic problem is that none of the various technologies is actually as good as a traditional CRT...

    Good-bye DVD's

That's been around for a few years. Actually, what tends to happen is that every few months some lab announces a "DVD-beating technology" with vast amounts of storage on a single disc, and every time the same thing happens: you never hear of it again.

    Good-bye DVD's

As someone who used to work on BluRay, I'd like to note a few things :-) The two formats are not compatible with existing DVDs only in the sense that they are different formats. It's pretty much guaranteed that all HD-DVD and BluRay players will be able to play regular DVDs (in the same way...

Fraggle Season 1 DVD boxset in Spain

Yeah, but what's the point? The US discs will play in any European player that supports R1 discs, and you won't get any NTSC->PAL conversion issues ;-)

    Fraggle Rock UK broadcast dates

It was; the first UK run of episodes aired around 5pm Saturdays. The second run switched to Wednesday afternoons in the Childrens' ITV slot, and subsequent seasons were mainly aired on Sunday mornings.

    The animated series

That makes sense - the listing for the above show is only 15 minutes long.
