I've used both contact cement and hot glue. So far I really haven't had any issues with hot glue. Are you using a high temp gun? They do seem to create a more durable bond. The key is really to only do an inch or two at a time and make sure to hold the surfaces together until they've truly...
And while I can't say for certain that ebay puppet looks VERY much like the work of a shady seller who has frequently sold knock offs of various licensed characters for similar amounts. I'd steer clear. Jarrod Boutcher or any number of other outstanding puppet-crafters could hook you up with an...
Thanks Knucklehead! I knew that JB had done more "Fraggle like" puppets but I didn't have the link to the gallery. I'd say he could truly handle the task!
I bow to the master! Awesome info! I hope you didn't think I was in any way slighting yourself or your awesome company with my quote. As I mentioned I don't really have any experience yet with reticulated foam so I'm glad you could offer a better perspective. It may seem kind of silly but I...
Not sure of the legalities there. I suppose that a puppet made in the style of the Fraggles but not an actual copy of a specific character would probably be okay. I have no doubt there are members here at the forum fully capable of just such a task. I probably could do something like that but...
You're not likely to find a Fraggle offered for sale as it is a copyrighted property. There have been some less than legit puppet makers out there that have trafficked in knock-offs of Muppets and Fraggles, but you're probably well advised to steer clear of these shady operators.
As to...
I wondered about that too. It almost seems like reticulated foam has achieved a kind of puppet-urban myth status. I think that some puppet makers touted this type of foam as preferable and it's just kind of spread amongst the community. I know that Project Puppet state on their site "reticulated...
Congratulations Chris! You should be very proud of your accomplishment! I'm so happy for all of you. What a treasure to be able to bring joy to people through the art of puppetry! Congratulations to you all!
:excited:
Gordon has it exactly right! Except that now I'm thinking about how I will make my first concrete puppet. A piece of advice that goes along well with all of that is one I often forget myself when embarking on any new artistic endeavor. And that is YOU HAVE TO BEGIN SOMEWHERE. And odds are your...
First of all I want to agree with Fozzie that Project Puppet is ABSOLUTELY the best place for a budding puppet builder to get started! That being said my personal feelings regarding which type of foam are...it depends. If you're going to be covering the puppet with fleece I think the typical...
Other than a clear acrylic spray paint I can't think of anything but Gordon (spcglider) has some REAL prop making expertise and might have some clever ideas...
I'd love to chime in with some helpful tips but I do not yet own those videos. I've heard they're quite good but haven't gotten around to them just yet. Hopefully someone here that has will have something to offer. Best of luck!
Oh yeah, Paul is a tremendous guy with lots of info! He also recently wrote an e-book detailing much of what he's learned in his many years of working in puppetry. I bought it and learned a number of useful things! I would recommend it for anyone who is thinking about trying to earn money with...
Wow Chris! You guys have done such a great job! All your hard work and effort (and $) is REALLY paying off! You guys should all be proud of what you've accomplished. I'm so excited for you guys!
