Well, DUH. Of course it was the controversy that got Snoop cut out. A lot is riding on this upcoming special/film/whatever. You can bet that it had nothing to do with a sudden attack of conscience up at the Henson Co. ;)
Mel was an absolute hoot. "The Muppet Movie" had great villians. The rest of the films (bear in mind I didn't see MTI or MFS and don't count Scrooge because he isn't a Henson creation) sorely lacked that essential element.
Re: Re: Re: from another thread...
By "romance", BTW, I'm not talking about "Piggy likes Kermit, while Kermit can't stand the pig". Just to clarify. :0
Can I nominate which puppet should be disposed of first?
(Hint: He's green and has been known to soil leather furniture in response to human females in a pathetic attempt to appeal to an "adult" audience)
So you're saying that when Jim Henson said the reason for Piggy's popularity is that people love going along with the idea of a beautiful pig (note that he said "beautiful pig", not "a pig who thinks she's beautiful"), that he was dead wrong? That what people fell in love with, and what caused...
Now, you should know better - didn't the Germans teach you anything about overpaying for a faded commodity? ;)
I think you ought to take my advice and look up the term "incongruity". There is nothing incongruous about a fat pig. Dig? Like, there's nothing incongruous about a brave lion. Now...
Re: Re: Re: Muppet Christmas...
That would just about buy Henson these days, it seems. ;)
Look, people fell in love with Piggy because she ISN'T like a pig. Jim Henson himself once said the key to her popularity is the idea of a beautiful pig. It's an incongruity (look it up), and people...
Re: Re: Re: from another thread...
Well, you almost got me interested. And then I had to go and watch that "Scrubs" clip at NPR.
Oh, well.
"Here's the story...of a man named Brady..."
Hmmm. No mention of Kermit's little publicity grab on "Access Hollywood" or "Entertainment Tonight" this evening. Wasn't mentioned in USA Today either.
Well, fame is fleeting...
Very likely it's not going to premiere at all. All the commentary about the Fox show is mostly waffling. The Fox network is in no shape to do anything experimental - or foolish - in the near future. And any new Muppet show is definitely a long shot for success.
Now the Xmas movie is another...
Then you're saying Sharon Osbourne is lying? And why, pray, would she do that?
If it *didn't* happen as she said, maybe Ozzy suppressed his annoyance at Kermit at the time but expressed it in his own inimitable way later to his wife.
Whatever. Her story, PLUS the treatment Kermit/Whitmire...
Oh, well, THAT'S something to look forward to. Really, you'd think the Henson folk would have learned SOMETHING from the demise of "Greg the Bunny".
Those of you who were dismayed by some of the unsavory stuff on "Craig Kilborn" have LOTS be happy about, I'm sure.
Re: Guys,
OR!!! Maybe she was actually THERE, and she saw it HAPPEN, and maybe some people don't appreciate a total stranger with a sweaty handpuppet violating their personal space... ya think?
Re: Not just PR
Surely you're not suggesting that Oscars are awarded according to who spends the most money on promotions? I don't really think it's a valid comparison.
As for your observation about when/if the star ceremony shows up on AH, you could very well be right. :)
Well, seriously, how big an honor is it, really? Sorry to sound so cynical, but after all, I mean those stars, in case you didn't know, are PURCHASED, not awarded per se. But I will say it's nice publicity...although neither "Entertainment Tonight" nor "Access Hollywood" seemed to think it worth...
