Bear arrives on Disney+ The beloved series has been off the air for the past 15 years. Now all four seasons are finally available for a whole new generation.
There's another article at Variety.com that covers this subject, but it has a rather ominous bit towards the end:
"Disney is easily the deepest-pocketed of the other known bidders, so its entrance immediately makes Burbank conglom a prohibitive favorite to win the auction. If that happens and...
Oh, how those people love to fool themselves. And others, of course. ;) A movie that "beat all comers"? Yeah, it beat a news show that traditionally skews older, it beat a *rerun* of "America's Funniest Home Videos", and a dippy movie "Brady Bunch In The White House". Blew 'em away! There's an...
I think that's an excellent analysis. Know what I think? I think Disney is doing a little public maneuvering. It's telling Henson via the press, "Look, you're not going to get any better than $135 million from us, you'll get far less from anybody else, and even then your assets are worth only...
"Although Disney's bid would be a steep discount from the $680 million German children's programming giant EM.TV paid for Henson in March 2000, it is still far too rich a price, people familiar with Henson's assets said. They put the value at no more than $80 million."
If that.
It's hard...
It's either because of money or copyright concerns or both. Whenever a copyrighted song is used in any type of production - TV, movie, live performance, etc. - permission from the song's creator and a nominal sum must be paid to ASCAP, an entity that works to protect and collect usage sums for...
Well, we've been over the "good" ratings bit, so let's move on. But FYI, there's a difference between "nostalgia" and "comeback". Most people who did tune in to the flick did so because it was a Christmas movie, airing during a time when most Christmas specials/films on TV are doing quite well...
Well, that's your assessment, and you're entitled to it. MY assessment is that the Muppets would sell out in a red hot minute if they could just figure out a way to do it. But they're trying. Didn't Pepe do a bit of staring at Joan Cusack's cleavage in the Xmas film (so I've heard?) And wasn't...
*snip*
You know, I read your thread about your emotional problems, Toothie, and I really hate to add to your angst, but I fear I must...SO...What is YOUR assessment of why the Mups are doing so badly? I'd love to hear it. ;)
Well, here's the thing, kid: The Muppets are one step away from bankruptcy. They're trying to sell themselves to somebody - ANYBODY, it seems - but so far no takers. Now how did they get in their little predicament? Here are the reasons some here have given:
1. Poor promotion.
2. They just...
Move over, ALF. Looks like the goofballs up at Henson actually considered making some *good* use of their favorite scapegoat - er, pig puppet:
*According to a former King World executive, who also spoke anonymously, the dispatching of King World programmers is not a surprise, considering the...
Re: ok...
The conversation at Tough Pigs actually concerned another discussion at the Palisades message boards. The link below will lead you to that discussion. Once you get to the site, go all the way to the bottom of the first page for the relevant post (written by Palisadestrav) ...
Re: ???
According to Tough Pigs.com, Palisades has been told that Toys R Us will not carry the series 3 line due to poor sales. None of the figures have sold well, not just Piggy.
Hey, fine by me. My point was, that topic is one of the few things about the Muppets *the general public* is interested in (as opposed to what species of fish Lew Zealand threw around). It's something a lot of people still care about despite Henson's constant fumblings with it. It's like it's a...
It's pretty ironic that Kermit appeared at a Toys R Us; the toy chain is now refusing to carry the Palisades Muppet line of action figures due to poor sales. ;)
Well, let's see. It's hard to answer someone who's attacking you for things you never said. FWIW, I favor a Piggy/Kermit love affair. I *do* think I've made that clear the infrequent times I've spoken of it. It's the Henson Co. that's unclear on that point (or perhaps *stupid* about that point...
Re: Reply
There are probably not too many posts on this subject because many here can't get over scraps of material jumping up and down and emitting funny noises. That's the attraction of the Muppets for them. Whereas most of the *general* public could not care less about such stuff. What...
It's the only truly adult theme of the entire franchise. Far more likeable than that Kermit-coming-onto-human-females cr*p Henson's tried to pull of late...pretty embarrassing and just plain dumb IMO. Best leave that junk to "Greg The (cancelled) Bunny"...
As for the kiss, I didn't see it...
