I don't think she's annoying at all in TMM. She's pretty terrific, in fact. However, in "The Muppets Take Manhattan", well, now you're talking. Frank Oz should have had HIS *ss kicked to the curb for deciding that turning Miss Piggy into a whiny stalker was funny. It was a terrible decision that...
My, my, have female issues much? ;) Why is it that some men react with such fear and antagonism to strong female characters? Is this normal? And if so, why don't I have this problem? ;)
Due to lousy writing and occasional below-par performances by Frank Oz, Miss Piggy has come off badly at...
As for your latter comment, I'd be curious about that myself. Not to mention how many VHS tapes of the movie NBC sold.
As for the graph, it was in the article in the actual newspaper, but not in the online article. Your local library might have back issues of the paper if you'd like to look...
"There you go"? Where, exactly? USA Today is not a tabloid. It's an oft-quoted national newspaper. Its journalistic integrity is as solid as any other newspaper's.
Near the end of the parade Al Roker remarked on the Kermit flower and the Big Bird grass (or whatever) and said, quite seriously, "Where's the Miss Piggy pink carnation?" And his co-host said "I think that should be developed for next year's parade."
Jim's company was having its troubles even before Jim died. Odds are he thought that his legacy had the best chance of surviving if it were supported by a larger company, rather than trying to stand on its own.
Luke, I have read many of your analyses of what's up with Henson, and you are VERY close to being right on the money. What you still don't quite grasp is that most of the crowd at Henson are full of BS. They threw that BS at EMTV and EMTV bought it, hook line and sinker. From what I've read of...
Well, the article did mention the Muppet special in a graph that listed the top Xmas specials according to viewership. So it was included in the article.
True. And worse things have been said about Jeffrey Katzenberg, formerly of Disney, now a hotshot at Dreamworks. But Katzenberg gets the credit for reviving the animation unit at Disney, far more so than Eisner, and, shark or not, Disney made a biiiiggg mistake letting him go.
FWIW, I too...
In the actual newspaper article there's a graph of Xmas specials listed in order of number of viewers. The Muppet special is there, but the caption under the graph states that except for "The Christmas Shoes", new Xmas specials sparked only moderate viewer interest. My argument all along has...
Here's the scoop from USA Today:
"It's hard to say, but this much is clear: The CBS movie starring Rob Lowe was the only new holiday program this year to make a mark among TV viewers.
Aside from Shoes and a few reliable chestnuts such as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman...
Well, it may not be a done deal yet. This excerpt is from the Variety report:
"The race to bid on Henson had intensified in recent weeks, as observers waited to see whether the Walt Disney Co. would step up and make a play for Kermit, Miss Piggy and company. At one point, Disney was...
Hey, what about me, Luke? I was the OTHER crazy person who kept saying the Disney deal wouldn't happen. Disney isn't that stupid.
As for the rest of the article, given that the emphasis was placed on Kermit ("Kermit and the Muppets"), then that, my friends, is a signal that the bad times are...
Since you ask, I liked much of the Muppet show, "The Muppet Movie", "The Great Muppet Caper", and "Muppet Family Christmas". Didn't care for "Muppet Christmas Carol", didn't go to see "Muppet Treasure Island", OR "Muppets From Space", and positively loathed "Muppets Tonight". As a kid I...
Again, an excellent analysis. And in addition - I think Disney will have a far better "handle" on what the Muppet appeal is and will exercise its influence to keep the lunatic fringe up at Henson from messin' with it. Particularly regarding the frog/pig dynamic. Disney has handled odd couples...
I sincerely doubt that show will ever make it to the air. If it does, it will most assuredly be short-lived. Remember, "The Jim Henson Hour" aired right after the successful airing of "Muppet Family Christmas", and we know how that went down. "Down" of course being the operative word. ;) A fuzzy...
